redoing the rear armrests

One of my winter projects...
I just received the new upholstery for the rear armrests of my '71 'vert. Couple of questions. Other than sanding them down to remove the roughness, is there any prep work that should be done to the metal? Also, what is the best adhesive to use? I was thinking of just using regular 3m upholstery adhesive, but should I be using something else because I will be adhering the new skins to metal?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would just bead blast, epoxy prime and use the 3M adhesive.
