3- Pro comp ( speed master) allumn heads
4- Hooker headers steped
i contacted Mondello preformance & spoke to a gentleman who said he was Joe Mondello..maybe it was the mans son. He said I could ship him my motor, and he would rebuild lower end for 3 grand with shipping. Not gonna happen. I live on Long Island in NY.. anybody got a good engine rebuild shop in NY/Long island? Any advice greatly appreciated-Bobby
Do some research before you let them work on your engine or buy parts.
Be aware that there are two Olds mobile businesses using the Mondello name. One is Joe's son Bernard at Bernard Mondello Racing Enterprises and is highly regarded. The other is Lynn Welfringer at Mondello Performance and, well, as I said do some research.

The person who answered the phone at Mondello racing, said they were Joe Mondello, I said from the Oldsmobile racing program ? dude said yes . Joe Mondello been dead, dead a while, didn’t bother to ask anything else. That’s why I posted it. Thanks for your input
Hey I took your advice, figured out who the real Mondello was . I have a question my 1971 Cutlass conv has some numbers on the oil fill tube. They appear to be 153708 the 8 on the end appears smaller..does this mean my 1971 has a 1970 v8 motor in it? My name is Bobby thank you for your advive

The truth is an oil fill tube was installed at the factory - yes. The truth is an oil fill tube can easily be removed and any oil fill tube installed in its place - which has often been done over the years on many cars for any number of reasons. The number on your oil fill tube may or may not be the original oil fill tube. It certainly isn't anything I'd care to worry about unless you were being judged on merit/points for a concours restoration. My '71 CS convertible has numbers on its oil fill tube - I'll try to find pictures for you.
Welcome to the site. Do you own the 1971 CSM? If not, I'll suggest you purchase an original paperback edition - it is the bible for your car.
Here's a picture and some additional posts regarding my oil fill tube. I don't believe anyone unequivocally substantiated whether my oil fill tube and/or its number had any bearing on originality - that I am aware of anyways.
Bobby - Now I recall your earlier posts/threads (of course, after I looked them up).
Did you get things worked out on the blue smoke exhaust and/or the intake manifold and/or head crack? Engine running? Hope things are working out for you.

I have no idea about oil fill tube numbers, but as said above, an oil fill tube can be easily replaced. The way to identify the year of the engine is the VIN stamping on the block. The second digit is the year of manufacture.
Also look for the head ID on the front corner of the drivers side / rear of the passengers side. Big blocks use a letter as in the picture below and small block use a number.
1970 = 6
1971 = 7
Adding to what Kenneth stated above, you can (should) look through that link I posted (above) from my oil filler tube. It has several posts describing locations and pictures of the engine VIN derivative which Kenneth (and others) helped me with a couple years ago and you can/should (if you're so inclined) validate if you have the original numbers matching transmission - there are pictures of my VIN derivative number on the transmission, as well. VIN derivative link >>> #56

I gotta pull the bracket to see underneath, for those numbers. I live in Long Island, still figuring out what I want to do. I know I’ll be buying stuff from Mark, not sure about shops around me. Merckle is the best name out here in Suffolk county NY..Anyone have any other suggestions? Leaning towards Marks pro comp heads, edelbrock 7111 manifold, Mahle pistons, scat rod, TQ 40 cam, Headers, dyno max or headman. Entertaining the idea of someone rebuilding/re jetting my Rochester Quad..it’s big carb in its own right.I know everyone replaces the CV’s on Harleys for SS super E ect. I found the CV’s jetted properly get the job done, betting its the same here with my Rochester vs say a 750 slayer carb. I know the machine shot will dictate a lot of what I do..Any suggestions, I’m just doing my home work.
