rear view mirrors

Is there a difference between the rear view mirror mounting brackets for a '71 cutlass convertible and a hard top?

The previous owner of mine had replaced the mirror with a standard reproduction. Apparently he just cut the wire for the map light and put in a new mirror w/o one. I have been e-mailing with someone that refurbishes and sells the original mirrors, but I just wanted to make sure that it will mount up OK.

Any ideas?

The mirrors(lighted & non lighted) & stem are the same between all A body Oldsmobiles. The hardtop bracket & cover are specific to that car & the convertible bracket & stem are specific to that car. I have the correct parts if you need them. I am in the process of having about 20 mirrors resilvered & will have some restored lighted & non lighted mirrors in the near future.

Thanks for the info. Just out of curiosity, how much will you be asking for the mirrors with the map lights?

Not 100% sure yet, probably between $65.00-$125.00 depending on how nice the final product is? I think they will be really nice once done.

I believe the Stem on the Vista Cruisers is a little shorter. I am not sure why, but both my Vista's had shorter stems.

Are the '72 mirror backs black vs. stainless for the '71 and older ones? I seem to remember that from back in the 80s when these cars were daily drivers.

Kenneth,
You are correct, I should have mentioned that also. The '72 versions have a black front versus stainless from earlier years. I believe it was to cut down on the glare to other drivers from the shiny fronts of the others.

Not all mirror stems are drilled for the wire for the light. Easy to tell, by removing the existing mirror and looking for the hole.
If you are purchasing the mirror from the Mirror Lady in Pennsylvania, ask about a stem. I got one from her just this pas spring for my 1969 Cadillac, along with the lighted mirror. Nice people to do business with, and good quality work.
