The springs are held in place by the weight of the car and the shock absorbers maintain pressure. The isolators can be had anywhere, below is what I bought for mine, Moog K6203-2 Coil Spring Insulator. Have not installed them yet.

That could mean the shocks are too long, springs have sagged, or wrong spring altogether.

X2 what Eric mentioned. Even when you remove the old shocks the springs should not just fall out, at least mine didn't.. That said, do you have a poll jack or a transmission jack to lift the rear slightly? If so, you can easily adjust the rear end up or down to get the new shocks installed. Just an idea or 2!

They may not fall out but they will be really loose once the shocks are removed and the rear is lowered to the end of travel.

There should be a plate (which Olds calls a clamp) anchoring the spring to the axle housing.
I don't have the '67 parts book handy. Here are part numbers from the '66 book; they are likely the same.
Group 7.545, "Clamp-Insulator, rear spring"
Clamp part number 537047
Upper insulator part number 9775680
Clamp washer part number 13055797

I believe '66 was the last year for the bolt in spring plates.

If your diff has flat plates with a hole in the center that the spring sits on, then you need the retainer plate. If it has a cup shaped boss sticking up to retain the pigtail, you don't. Your springs should have pigtail ends, on both ends.

66 has clamp, 67 does not. 67 are pigtail on both ends.

What ever springs they are, if they are sloppy with the car jacked up and the shocks still connected there is a problem.

My car (70 442) had the original style (but new) spiral rear shocks on it. Every time I put the car up on the lift, the shocks allowed the rear end to drop so low that the springs would pop out of the top pocket. A real pain when you have to be under the car while someone else lowers it so that you can make sure the springs align properly. Two days ago I pulled them out and replaced them with KYB gas adjusts. The new shocks prevent the rear end from dropping so low and now the springs can no longer move out of alignment.

The repop spirals are now up to something like $90 each and the better quality KYB's are less than $30 through Rock Auto. Unless you absolutely have to have the spirals for a concour restoration, I'm not sure why anyone would use them anymore.

That is a beautiful car. I've never seen springs just fall out when shocks were still connected. My guess is they are the wrong springs.

With the car sitting like that, those springs should not be loose with the right length shocks. The rear is higher than stock, would look nice with wider tires.

i have no power steering or brakes 4-speed close ratio, i just bought the wheels and 70 series tires, steering is very nice right now not hard, wider tires would hurt that. i have had over 20 cars from the 1960's over the years and this is one of the better driving, riding, steering, shifting, braking and running ones i ever had. it is not frame off, had frame off restoration cars but were never right. i sometimes ruin my cars trying to make them go fast like to keep this stock as i can. i learned to like the stock sleeper look. your car car looks very nice all around, looks more muscular.

That's what has always been cool about the car hobby, you can personalize as you wish. Your car is really nice, love the red with the painted roof.

This is what my 67 looks like with the air shocks lifting the rear (ignore the jack, I was getting ready to take off the shocks). Unfortunately the car sits lopsided without any shocks so I think one of the springs is weak.
