Rarest 442 option ever?
Rarest 442 option ever?
K05 - Engine block heater!
As we all know, rare does not always equal desirable. I’ve never seen this option on a 442, of course this is a well documented Canadian car - from a member a fellow CO member.
Beautiful car, GLWS!

That is my era and I don't recall 4-4-2 owners being concerned much with speed...control. LOL!
Another rare option I have on my '69 4-4-2 convertible besides factory cruise control is front seat shoulder belts. Interesting option but a royal pain to use - not right up there in a their little holders like in a hard top. I don't like them and have never used them so they sit nice and pretty in their little holders in back! My '69 also has the AM-FM stereo radio which sounds OK when the top is up. But when the top is down, you can't hear the rear speaker at all.

I guess it's time to do this again. That older thread covered all Olds models and years. For 442-specific, here we go:
1-of-25 1969 W-32 convertibles (or 1-of-25 W-32 Sport Coupes)
Rear shoulder belts in a convertible (RPO AS5)
Reclining passenger bucket seat (RPO A70) last offered in 1968
Column shift controlled pulse wipers (RPO CD3) in 1971
The real unicorn is the manual disc brake delete for W-30 and W-31 (RPO JL7) in 1970
No one can verify that any car was ever actually factory built with JL7, but Olds put the documentation in the books, so that configuration was legal for NHRA stock class. Drum brakes are better than disc for drag racing since you can back off on the adjusters to minimize drag from the brakes. In stock classes, that fraction of a HP can make all the difference in the world.

my brother in law was given a new 72 442 350 2bbl single exhaust when he graduated from college.red/white interior, bench seat a/c.i still have the transmission, the chicago winters were not nice to the body. i also think i still have the "pop"for it
In 1965 the factory in Lansing refused to allow the P27 or P28 options (15" wheels) on my F-85 when the 442 option was specified. The option book prohibited P27 or P28 on the convertibles, but said nothing about the 442 option with a sedan. They said I could have the 15" wheels or the 442, but not both options. I was a bit disappointed. I suppose it was due to front fender clearance.(?)
Think Hairy's talking about the upper level dash vents that each had their own little blower for forced air ventilation. I've never seen an Olds with it and only one Buick. It's covered in 69 FB manual and the parts book lists them as C57 option "Forced Air Ventilation". There's also C56 "Upper Air Ventilation" option listed.
Per parts book looks like you could get it on 88/98 too. Might have been a good idea for non-air cars where the blower only worked in heat and defrost, and you got stuck in traffic with no airflow thru the dash and kick panel vents.
