Take the water pump pulley off and put the belt over it and the crankshaft pulley and put it back. Make sure you have a belt the right length first as outlined above.
If the belt is a little slack it should be ok, the only load is the water pump as it is only a temporary measure.
You will get a good upper body workout driving without power steering!.

They make adjustable belt also, you add or remove links to get a suitable length

We use quite a bit of it for large fans up to 2HP or so. Good for testing also, as you eliminate tensioner and idler pulley losses.
