Radiator Question

I just bought a 71 Cutlass Supreme Convertible and the radiator has a pin hole leak. I was wondering what is the difference between the supreme and s style cars. Can i interchange the radiator between the two. My car has a 455 and I'm looking at installing a aluminum radiator. Any suggestions.

The Radiator dimensions are the same for both body types. Is The Rad in the car right now original to the car? If it is, it's worth keeping.

The difference is mostly cosmetic and the functional parts like radiators do not differ based on this.

Have you looked into getting yours repaired?

I don't know if the radiator is original or not. The guy I bought it from said he thought about getting it fixed but I figured an all aluminum would perform better.

Originals with tag intact can be $$$
because a lot of them got recycled.

Look into a recore at your radiator shop

I have a 67 Olds 98LS.... are you saying if the radiator is the original it is best to keep as opposed to replacing with a new modern one?

Hey dprestia were you asking me or the guys above. I think I'm going to go ahead and put me another one in now and just keep and fix the one in later if its worth anything. Maybe the radiator shop will know if its an original.

Question was for the members in general who have experience in this - maybe there is some value beyond nostalgia in all original parts in the engine compartment like radiator, fans, air-cleaner, and such...

Still may be worth keeping. Doctoring can be fixed. Aluminum always cools better if you don't care about looking original but selling the original can offset the cost of the Aluminum one. Good luck.

If you can post a photo of the rad, especially around the Trans line inlets, I can tell you if its original or not. It would say Harrison on the passenger side at the top if it was a least OEM. A lot of guys don't have the originals anymore, so if it is, its worth something. Thanks

I will take a look at it tomorrow when I get to it and post a couple of pictures. I currently put the other radiator in but if it's an orginal I surely dont want to throw it away.
