Question about 1965-70 full sized speedometer cable
Hi All
I'm dismantling a 1970 Delta 88. When I popped the drivers side dust cover I didn't see the end of the speedometer cable. I thought it must be damaged, but was having trouble removing the nut on the back of the spindle. So I went ahead and pulled the disc brakes and dismantled the drivers side to get the cable out. Once out it looks like the cable is too short. I was under the impression there was only one size used during these years. So my question is just that, did they have more than one length? If they didn't then someone must have replaced this cable with one that was too short. Or, were there different spindles used between the years and someone used an earlier setup? Here's how it looks laid against the spindle. Any info you guys could share with me would be appreciated!

Its been a lot of years since I took one of these apart and I didn't remember that. Then it could be that pieces is broken off of the dust cover and the cable is fine. Thank you for the help!

[QUOTE=CRUZN 66;1055138]Here's what your dust cap should look like inside... This is an NOS one I have in my part inventory...
Thank you for posting the picture. The dust cover on this car is missing the plastic piece. I'm guessing someone in the past didn't get the speedometer cable in it correctly and broke it off. John

The 1972 parts book lists three different cables for 65-70 "big" cars (exc J-88)
1965-67 all except J-88, F-85, Toronado ,or cruise control #6454859
1968 except F-85 , Toronado , or cruise #6477848
1969-70 except F-85 , or Toronado , #6477545
