Quadrajet vocabulary!

So I thought it might be a good idea to ask for all your help. I've noticed that many of us have Quadrajets on our stock cars, and after reading many articles including Lars I'm still at a loss for many of the "technical" terms about these carbs. I assume Im not the only one. So lets try to start a vocabulary list. Pics always help me...if you have them. For instance while reading I kept coming across "air horn" finally I figured out that it is the top of the carb, that the 9 screws attach to.

The term air horn is not unique to the Qjet, but applies to just about any carb built. It's the top of the carb with the choke plate.

I may be way off here, but I have always learned the nomenclature of new mechanisms by studying the exploded view, which is generally included in all manuals and rebuild kits.

Herewith, a selection of QuadraJet resources (get out your pencils):

1965 QuadraJet repair Manual (starts on page 4)

1973 QuadraJet Manual

1981 QuadraJet Manual (including M4ME)

A nice, clean QuadraJet 4MV exploded view from WildAboutCars.

A different QuadraJet 4MV exploded view

A QuadraJet 4MC exploded view (not as clean)

A QuadraJet E4ME (CCC) exploded view

A darned complete non-factory-manual guide to QuadraJet rebuilding

A less detailed, but very practical, guide to QuadraJet rebuilding

A guide to generally decoding QuadraJet unit numbers

A list of Olds QuadraJet applications, by part number

A very nice guide to secondary metering rods

Enjoy!

Bored or easily obsessed, I'm not sure. I had most of them already in a file, though.

I thought most of the "technical Terms" regarding Qjets were four letters in length. j/k

Great list of links that i will be going over MD, Thanks.

"Power Piston"

That's a favorite. Sounds like something in the engine that really raises performance.....

Hey Eric, not being picky, but I am curious.
The manual listed for 1965 is dated 73?
When was the 4G replaced by the Q_jet?
My 65 has the 4G.

The 4GC was replaced by the QJ first in 1965 on some Chebby models, and then in 1966 in the other Divisions.

Manuals were often printed several years after the models in question, to include the latest updates, just like you may have a carb for a '68 with a build date of '73.
