Quadra jet ID 1966 442

Just bought a 66 442, car has an edelbrock carb, in the trunk in a box is a quadra jet. Want to see if anyone can tell me if its original to the car. I couldn’t find any numbers stamped on the side like later carbs..

The silver disc should have 7026250 on it. It looks like other such carbs I've seen. I have a couple of them. There were very few Rochester carb numbers in 1966.
442, Starfire, 4 speed or automatic were all 7026250 IIRC.

The disc is very hard to read, numbers aren’t real clear.. it does start with 702..ends with zero but i cannot make out the rest of the numbers with any certainty..the paper sticker is faded to nothing as well. Engine appears to be a 66 400, has the b heads, and the cylinder head number is V 120096..whatever that means.

From when they first came out in '65 until sometime in the middle of the model year '68, Quadrajet numbers were on a silver disk as Koda notes. Thus, your carb is of the right vintage to be correct for the car; however, without a legible number I don't know that you can say for sure. I am attaching a photo of 1966-1968 carb numbers from my March 1968 edition of the Olds Parts and Accessories Catalog for your reference if you are able to make headway reading the disk. Keep in mind the number in the parts manual are service/replacement part numbers - not necessarily the number on the carb as it would have come from the factory. I can't find my list of factory original numbers but I believe Android 211 is correct - 7026250 is the number you are looking for. I do not believe Quadrajets came from the factory with any kind of paper labels affixed in those days. Thus, even if correct from a part number standpoint I suspect it may not be the actual carb that originally came with the car new - usually you see labels like the one shown in your picture on carbs purchased from a rebuilding company and typically sold on an exchange basis. Would be great if it was the original carb - looks to be in decent enough shape to clean up well with a standard overhaul. Good luck.

66 442

Correct heads. The V denotes 442 engine.
Great cars. Is it a stick? Had one 43 years ago and picked up another a few years back, working on getting it back on the road.

Sharp looking car. 400ci, 4 speed, and dual exhaust - true to its name.

It appears to be a reman carb , that at least has a later air horn on it. the 66 had what I believe was called damping valve on the secondaries.Yours has the correct throttle linkage on it so it should be fine. Here is a picture of a 66 .

No 66 QJ came with a paper tag, It's likely an early rebuild of a first-gen QJ.
Don't get hung up on it you have a very nice 66. ..
Cliff will know what it is and have the parts to rebuild it.

Makes sense it's a reman due to it being a 66. They were notorious.
