pypes exhaust users I have a question
I'm looking to put a new 2.5" exh. on my '68 442. I was considering Pypes for the great price and the fact that it's stainless. They make quite a few different systems that they claim fit. I had also heard a rumor that the system for the 70-71 GTO with fit the best on 68-72 442's. So my question is which system did you use and how did it fit the bumper cutouts?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Previous owner put 3" pypes on my 72 and they fit, look, and sound awesome (also have headers on it). Its 72 is a 442 clone with the cut out pumpers and it also fits great.
Here is a video the previous owner posted.

I went with the 2 1/2" Pypes with Racepro mufflers and X pipe system. Fit great on my 70 442 with manifolds. Lined up great with the bumper cutouts. Sounds good. Not too loud. I got it at Summit.

I just bought the system for my 74 Cutlass. I am really impressed with the quality. The bends are clean, the welds are very good, and the pipe has solid walls, not the tinfoil that some of the aftermarket systems are made from. With the money you save on the system, band clamps make a nice finish over the u-bolts the system comes with. Hopefully, I will get the car fired up this weekend to hear how it sounds.

I used the SGA10 for my 68 442. They did NOT fit the cutouts without bending. I can't speak for the GTO version. This was 5 years ago, I don't know if they are the same or have changed.

After lots of searching, emails, and phone calls to pypes I bought the 2 1/2 inch SGA29 series GTO true dual setup. The cutout locations are suposed to be in the same spots. I wanted a true dual setup without the H or X pipe. This seemed hard to source but Pypes listed it for GTO's only. One Pypes tech told me they can't say it fits Olds because they never tested it first hand. I suggested they send me the kit to test for free and I would be the ginea pig. He just laughed.
I was able to install them on my back in my home garage using 8" ramps on the front tires and jack stands on the fram in the back. You will need to let the suspension hang to it's lowest point to wiggle the tail pipes in over the axle.
I have a Franken-Cutlass and do not have the correct bumper brackets for the rear cut out bumper exhaust hangers. I had to fabricate a few brackets to get things lined-up properly. I recently had my trunkpan and lower wheel houses replaced on mine. I needed to massage the lower wheel house egdes slightly to prevent any contact. Maybe the bottom 1/4 inch or so. Tapping with a rubber mallet did the trick. My left side hangs about 1/2 lower than the right at the cutouts. The exhaust shop I took it to the weld up the front pipes to my header/flange is going to tweak the rest for me for about $100. They sugested that I drive her for a few hundred miles to let the exhaust settle in the new hangers before the tweak.
I have had the kit on for about 3 months and I am very happy with the fit, finish and sound of this kit. I got the 18" Race Pro mufflers by the way. At idle, inside the car with all windows down you can barely hear anything. From behind she has a nice low whump whump whump sound. Growls at part throttle and snarls on heavy throttle.
The kit was a great price and I did 95% of the work at home. I bought the kit through Summit and it was almost $100US cheaper than from Pypes themselves.
I also got the EVT34, the 2 1/1" slip fit OE style trumpets which I will put on after my final tweaking.
