A quick Google search 'splains it all. In a nutshell...
"The Protect-o-Plate was a small stamped metal plate that was sent, by the factory, with each vehicle produced. It was stamped with basic identification data about components like engine, carburetor, transmission and rear axle. It also contained factory installed options and the month of manufacture"
I have one for my '70 Nova. I wish I had it for the Cutlass.

Sorry the critters got to all that documentation.
I understand what is,
Mine is shown above I guess the better question is, can someone decode it for me?
I haven't seen one like the one shown, slightly chewed, by the O.P or the example shown. Is that type dealer provided or mfg.?

Been lurking while looking for means of Identifying engine. Any chance of someone having the complete breakdown for this one

I have one for my old Rallye 350, it is like the example pictured. It also has the 1-15 on it. Car was a 01A build on the cowl tag. I wonder if the 1-15 might be a date code of when it was released or shipped?
Just for fun, mine was in-service on 03-03-70 with 00003 miles!
