Photobucket

Well it looks like photobucket has changed it usage terms with relation to 3rd party posting. A lot of pictures within threads are going to disappear, its a shame. If you copies of these pics on your device/s, please upload replacements if you can.

One of the larger tech companies should have purchased them a while ago. If for nothing else but the data mining. Not saying it is right or wrong, but that is just the way it goes. Possibly there will still be a buyout of some sort. Sometimes tech companies announce a "downgrade" of services just before another company comes along to purchase, and then everything returns to normal...or close to normal. Hoping for the best.

I was a bit irritated that I had an account since the 90s then suddenly I was violating their updated terms of use and for a couple hundred dollar annual fee I could regain the same service I had for the past couple decades. Let's hope something happens and things revert to the way they used to be.

Until then, does anyone have recommendations for a replacement photo hosting site?

Yep, I'd also been using it for about a decade. Now I get an email saying I have to sign up for a plan costing $399 a year to do what I had been doing for free. I guess they weren't making enough money on the popup ads... but I'll bet most of us walk away from it. Going from zero to four hundred dollars a year is ridiculous

I've been to a site called Flikr, I don't know if its still around. But there's other ways to post pictures here without using a hosting company. I'll need to look through the old threads but I believe Jamesbo and Joe P. have each described ways to post pictures directly here avoiding the "hosting" issues.

OK, I'm experimenting with the method Jamesbo described back in 2009

So here's one way to upload from your computer without a hosting service.

When you reply make sure you are in “Advanced” If it says post a “Quick reply” hit “Advanced”

Scroll down below the box you type in and hit “ Manage Attachments” A new box will pop up.

Hit “Browse” (hit the bottom browse button)

Then hit “Upload” and wait a few secs for the pics to up load. Then close this box.
Next you can hit “Preview Post and your pictures should be there.

There is a size limit on pics (5MB)

Actually its even easier than that. Click on the yellow square that sort of looks like a post card. It will open a box with 2 choices input a URL, which means you click to copy a picture off the interwebs with copy and paste. Or, you can choose to upload from your electronic device with the bottom choice.

Videos you just copy url address and paste directly directly in the message pane.

Same here. Photobucket changes something every 2-3 years and screws up all of the linking in older posts. Better to get it to CO than link.

if you are looking for just another site, imgur.com is an easy and quick place to just upload stuff, otherwise, just use this site's built in stuff.

I got the same message from Photobucket! Fortunately this site, the AACA Website, and Facebook allow the images to be posted right from my computer without posting the Photobucket link! Photobucket was becoming a nuisance to upload my photos anyway!

while I received the same email, several times in fact, I have yet to log into my photobucket account since then. best as I can tell, all my links with photos on CO still work.

I do agree uploading photos to photobucket and all the ads have become a nuisance.

Thanks. I usually post links since I post to multiple site. One place to upload a photo then paste the link to the site. easier to me

All my links to photobucket were directed to a page saying their terms have changed. I downloaded all the photos I had there to my laptop and canceled my account.

I've said before , that photobucket was a poor choice for posting on a forum like this .
Oldspackrat has just reminded me of the way to post nice big photos directly to this websight ;
1. When you click on reply or post , look just above where you type . There will be a bunch of symbols . Look for a yellow postcard . Click on it .
2. This will take you to a new page , where you have a choice of linking to a URL . Or to browse your device . Choose browse your device .
3. find the photo you want , then right click and click "select"
4. This should bring the photo up in a new window . Then click on "insert".
