Can someone find the application for a part number 5676453? It is a tie rod end and has to be from the early 60's or older. It is GM but may not be Oldsmobile. I can not find this number anyplace.
That part number is not listed in the April 1969 parts catalog... Covers back to 60/61, maybe even 59...
While it doesn't matter for this particular part, which was old enough not to be covered in that book anyway, be aware that just because a parts book covers back a number of years, that doesn't mean that it covers ALL the parts for those years. Each parts book is a snapshot of only those parts still in the network as of the printing date of the book. The fact that the April 69 book has listings back to 59 doesn't mean that it has ALL the parts from 1959. And even when parts are listed, if they were superseded, only the new number appears, not the original. As an example, the Jan 72 parts book only lists the 71-72 Cutlass front fenders with the dimples and shows them as applying to 1970 also. The revised parts superseded the 1970 fender part numbers in the book.
Really, the most important thing here, is whether you got the number off the part...or the box. If that's a number cast on the part, they are rarely or never the same as the actual part #. For some reason they are very often 1 digit apart from the actual #. I've seen it multiple times on front end parts, like idler arms.

This is an important point. There are actually two issues. First, is the box original to the part - I've had that problem before. Second, as you correctly point out, casting numbers are rarely part numbers if there is any assembly work done to the casting. One example is the 71-72 4bbl intake for big block cars. The AT and MT versions use the same casting number, but the MT versions have the PCV nipple installed. As a result, the AT version part number is the casting number, but for the MT version it's obviously different.
This is NOS in the box and has never been opened. I got something off of eBay and they sent me the wrong part. They told me to keep it and refunded my money. I was going to list it or give it to someone that could use it but did not know what it fits.
Somewhat off-topic, but when I was a kid, I used to see this person (behind the wheel) in lots of automobile television commercials/advertisements. I don't know who he was/is, whether the advertisements were solely Oldsmobile, GM or whatever. But I remember him well.

Looks a lot like Floyd the barber, from the Andy Griffith Show.
