Original or repops?

Hey all, I was looking at replacing the chrome trim (aka "piping") on the bucket seats in my '72 Supreme, and from what I know, the repro piping won't work on OEM seat backs. I know the interior was redone by one of the former owners, so how do I know if the seat backs are original or repops?

Thanks,
Dave

The absolute best, original design piping for our bucket seats is from Ames Performance.. Here’s the link to the catalog..

Not sure which one I bought worked just fine on seats. You might try another vendor.
That's a Pontiac site but works just fine on some parts. I bought the rear brace for my 64 drag car.

100% agree. Most repro piping is thinner and chromier than the originals. The Ames ones are the correct diameter and have the correct satin silver finish

Yes the Ames trim is great!! When I redid my buckets in '18 I really didn't need the piping as it was all intact even the metal end caps were still there but it had yellowed a bit. Since I already had a small fortune in the seats with the new Legendary covers, the pre-cut jute padding kit from Ben Rambow, & adding headrests I figured might as well get the new trim. It's very nice, all 6 pieces are pre-formed, not just one big roll like the cheap thin stuff! I've bought a few things from Ames, like Fusick they're great people to deal with. I'm sooooo jealous when I look through their catalog, they definitely have their GTOs covered for parts!!!

How about a little help on what we are looking for. Do we look for a 1970 seat piping for that year, or 70 thru 72?

Thanks,
Charlie

The Ames catalog shows '68 to '72 all the same kit with the 6 molded pieces. It says you will have to trim the ends because they make them a little long( I had to trim mine) The kits are $89 with no end caps. They do also have a specific '68 only kit that has the 12 caps since '68 was the last year that used the stainless steel end caps but wouldn't matter in your case since you have a '70. Like I said before the molding is very nice!!
