Been watching this auction skyrocket for the last few days. The owner seems to tiptoe around mentioning the displacement. Also will note his negative feedback is from other 442’s that were auctioned. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Oldsmo...dd0d%7Ciid%3A1
My first reaction is that anyone who posts old car price guide pictures in an ad has unrealistic expectations of selling price.
Un-notched valve covers suggest that isn't the original engine. That begs the question of whether it's originally a 4spd car or not. Of course every 70-72 has to have a repro O.A.I. hood, W-30 side stripes, and a wing.
And hold the presses, I just noticed the pre-1968 power steering pump and brackets. WTF? Lots of questions here.
The silver paint on the iron intake is a nice touch.
Lots of room between the valve cover and brake booster
The reason for the notched covers isn't static clearance, it's to allow enough room to remove the cover with the engine in the car. The alternative is to loosen the brake booster. It also allows room to jack up the engine to replace the motor mount without crushing the valve cover.
And room or not is irrelevant. Every 1967-72 BBO A-body came from the factory with notched covers.
Yup. The balancer appears to be correct for a 455, but why the 67-earlier parts? Clearly the car has been apart and reassembled. That always begs the question of how many bolts were left out during that process.
Great color and certainly worth what it looks like it will bring money wise. Just some details that bother even aside from the incorrect accessory parts. Would it really break the bank to put another foot of hose from the washer bottle to the pump and route it correctly so it doesn’t vibrate like a piano string?
I just noticed the bypassed heater core also, so you know that's leaking.
The previous owner said this engine is not the original engine to the car. The original owner was the one who replaced it at some point back in the 1980's. I'm assuming the heater core will need to be replaced, because those tubes are capped off on the firewall. There is a Holley Double Pumper 4-barrel carburetor under the awesome functioning original from 1970 ram-air induction air cleaner with a brand new foam seal. When the accelerator is pressed is when the flapper door opens up to draw more air into the carburetor to increase the horsepower. I personally don't care for Holley carburetors, so I would suggest that the new owner locate a nice correct Quadrajet.
