oldsmobile 100th anniversary
#6
Hi Pat, we had a great time at the 100th our plaque is #1158/2500.
The caravan coming down towards the capital building and just walking down the street between the rows of cars, feeling the energy and talking to all the people was an exciting part of the whole show.
We filmed the parade from the back of a flatbed tow truck parked along side the route. We still talk about that trip and all the people we met.

That was a great show, the bridge was a popular place to be. I have a stash of pics...somewhere. I drove down on weds. to check out the swap meet, and came back on Saturday for the show, (and cake!).

I was number 247/2500. As I recall, the real prize was to be 442/2500. I don't know if they just gave that number to the 442nd person to register, or if they reserved it or auctioned it off or something.

That was the worst weather in August I have ever seen rainy and temps around 60. Saturday was about the only decent day!

Funny you mention that. I remember them being about $20 for the six pack at the show. But I was told the Olds Cokes were a special local bottling and were available other places in and around Lansing. So I checked, and sure enough there was a beverage store on a main street in town that had them. Something ridiculous like $13.00/case. (4 six-packs to a case). I bought 2 cases and still have them.

Just missed it by 3 numbers (445).... Actually would have also been glad with 10 numbers more as well

olds crest key chain
I think they gave everyone that registered an olds crest key chain --but when I got back from the birthday I found a guy with 5 of them on ebay for $5.00 ea. Bought them and put one in each of my cars and gave the others to olds guys that didn't make it to Lansing. I also have a few things from the birthday. GREAT TIME

I attended the event and saved a lot of the paraphernalia that was mailed to me, I got at the event, and so forth including clippings from the local newspaper with coverage of the event. I've uploaded 34 scans to a picasa web album. I put a caption here and there where I thought it would help.
Here's just one:
Feel free to have a look.

Way cool photos - thanks for posting.
I am very disappointed in not going there. I was young and uninformed then. I do have some news broadcasts on the event though on VHS.
I bought this video a few years after and I loved it...
http://newmand.oldsgmail.com/video.htm
It is one hour of ameteur video clips taken from the event starting from the oldest cars to the newest. Other side shots include some from the working production lines (with sparks a flying), the buildings that no longer stand, Linda Vaughn, and old Olds ads. It was all well mixed and is fun to watch.
There is no commentary but instead there is about an hour of car (and Olds) related songs, some being good driving songs that I recorded for that purpose. There are a couple good burnouts, too!
I have the VHS and DVD and have watched them many times.
It is well worth the cost.
