Old's Quad 8 32-valve 5.0-liter V-8

32-valve 5.0-liter V-8 called the Quad 8 https://www.hagerty.com/media/automo...st-prototypes/

Any of you have more info on this engine? Where any made? The article is more about the Quad 4. "Quad 8, with the company even displaying a mockup of this engine at one point at the SEMA show. Unfortunately, the Quad 8 idea led nowhere, as GM shifted its focus to Cadillac’s Northstar V-8 development instead". Is this engine out there somewhere?

No, the furthest it got was this mockup. Olds did apply a lot of what they learned from the Q8 program to the Northstar, however.

I’ve been under the impression the quad 4 led to quad 8 development which ultimately became the northstar, I have not seen that quad 8 picture before though. I have seen an inline 6 that was supposedly a quad 4 with two extra cylinders, looked the part but idk if it truly was.

The "Quad 6" is in the REO museum.

That is not the same engine I saw but cool, I’d like one.

The one in the REO is definitely Q4 based. Same front cover and cam drive, same basic architecture. In the same way that the Q8 led to the N*, I suspect the Q6 led to the Atlas engine used in the Trailblazer and last-gen Bravada.

Too bad neither of those motors never ended up on the hood of an Olds. Very cool.

Joe, I’m not saying the engine you posted is not a “quad 6”, I am simply stating it is not the engine I have seen previously. The atlas is cool but it seems to have a tall deck. It looks like a tough fit in the cars I’ve seen it swapped in
