Olds grave yard

was crossing my mind, as I am in restoring my olds, seeing it is some what difficult to find parts, would it be a good investment in starting an olds grave yard and just staying with olds. Not saying to make this a full time job but for fun and make a little money doing some you enjoy

It would be a tough go. Your market is limited, you need volume to survive, and good quality parts. People won't pay good money for less than high quality stuff anymore, and everyone expects junkyard parts to be perfect. Don't ask me why.

Depending on where you are, state and local environmental laws will just about kill you. Then there's the tax and real estate aspect of it- some localities don't want a junkyard, they want developers who will build high-tax base housing.

'Course, if you have 1000 acres out in the dry southwest somewhere, you might could make a go of it.

Hello Kyle
I'll confess to being a packrat and have drug home extra parts for trade stock when I'm roaming the local boneyards. Over the years I've also drug home parts cars that I needed a few items from with the plan to sell/trade the items I don't need for parts I do. I daydream of having 20 acres in the country with a large pole barn to save old iron. But even with that the county ordinances have constraints on what we can and cannot do. You would need to look into your local laws before getting too involved. I agree though, when these cars are gone they're gone and we'll all have to scrounge for parts and rely on repop more. John

A young guy just moved here a few years ago,and is interested in Olds's. The other day he mentioned that he had been looking everywhere for them, there weren't any oround the area-no back yards, woods, junk yards, etc.I had to tell him I has scooped them all up about 25 years ago!I had a big barn and a gravel pit for storage, and whenever I saw one just sitting,I either bought it or they gave it to me. I worked at a garage, and if a nice one came in,I asked them if they ever wanted to sell, let me know.
I ended up with quite a few,the junks were stripped and parts sold, the good ones saved and driven.I had 13 going at one time, and one set of plates.Put them on what I wanted and trusted to luck.Eventually they all went away, but when I got my present 65 442,I found my original one in a junkyard.I had stripped it for painting, then sold it.Inside the trunk was all of the chrome and potmetal, greased and wrapped up.Nice.
So as a labor of love,if you have the time and space/money,a small yard with the more popular models might make some money.Get some rust-free cars. There are worse ways to spend your time. ---bil
