Is old glass worth saving? Especially 1978 Toronado?

Hi All
Over the years I've pulled a lot of glass out of cars I was dismantling. Door, windshield, you name it. Now, I'm not sure what half of it is. Oldsmobile for sure... but it could be 1954-55 or 1964-77. I think the only pieces I've ever shipped were Vista Cruiser roof glass. This 1978 Toronado has nice glass that I believe is factory in it. But the front windshield is huge! Is this stuff still available? Is it worth the trouble to try and pull intact and save? What do you guys think?

That's a tough call. You pull it, you might sit on it for years. You crush it and the next day somebody will be on here with their hair on fire needing it.

I think it interchanges with Eldorado and very possibly with Riviera, though by then the E-bodies didn't look very much alike.

John, frankly, if I needed a replacement windshield for my '78, I'd probably try to get a new one from an auto glass shop before putting in an older piece from a parts car. I did find a vendor online that sells windshields for the second-generation Toros. I would think that my local auto glass shop could get it as well. The new glass will have no scratches, have the most modern safety technology, etc.

As rocketraider says, if you hang on to it, it might be forever before someone ends up needing it and you sell it.

Old used glass is a tough sell. Have sold perhaps seven or eight pieces in fifteen years. Most will not want to pay to ship used glass. But yet I find myself still occasionally buying pieces from two door cars. 66-67 A, 73-74 X, etc. Did pickup a bunch of old 70-72 A body glass from a yard in Dona Ana that finally crushed out. Best sale ever had, was a full set of used side glass for a 68-69 Olds two door post car - $250 locally, no shipping. A once in a lifetime sale, unfortunately.

Yes I had A body glass, hanging around for years. Broke more taking to swap meets and back than sold. Had hard time even giving it away.

Decision made! I was trying to get the guitar wire through the seal when I cracked it. Man, that seal is petrified! I will hang onto the back glass for now, at least until I get tired of tripping over it.
