Old carb

Bought this used holley cab about 30 yrs ago can't even remember where.I remember I went to get parts or something for it and the guy at the speed shop couldn't find it in his book.He did tell me it was a 725 cfm. Well I decided I was going to rebuild it for a project my son is working on.looking for a rebuild kit I found out it's off a 68 Shelby. The list # is 4118-S.I was wondering if the S stood for Shelby. Also there's a number under the list number 982.Can anyone tell me what that number means.

S does not mean shelby

it is a 68 "shelby" carb but its a service replacement or a 69 or 70 built carb

982 is date code

9-69
8-8th month
2-2nd week..

august 2nd week of 69..which is the beginning of the 70 model year

service carbs are worth about 1/3 of a production line carb is worth..so if you want to use it...use it...you think Olds guys care about dates...Ford guys..especially so called shelby guys are nuts

I have rebuilt many, many Holleys don't buy anything but a Holley kit, everything else is substandard "JUNK".
