OAI hood pins - buy new or rechrome?

The hood pins I have are original, but should be rechromed, which will run around $150. I see repros all around for 60-70-80 bucks, and they all seem to look the same (to each other - never compared to originals). Is it worth rechroming the originals, or are the repros just as good? I don't think I've ever heard anyone complaining about the quality or the fit of a reproduction piece. Thoughts?

And actually, as I look these over, I see I'm missing a spring and the two locking pins. Maybe new is the way to go...

You can pick a set from Fusick, they are pretty nice. NOS is always an option, but pricey.

Yeah, every now and then I see an NOS pair for $250 or so, but I don't need that. Does everyone buy from the same supplier? (Fusick, Year One, OPGI, etc.) I saw a pair from Tamraz that had rubber covers on the cross pin - never saw that before...

Fusick had there own made, and I used a set on car with no issues. The chrome was really nice. I'm not sure about the other suppliers. I know the original supplier to GM still made them. The Parts Place use to carry them. For the rubber caps, just remove them.

Exclamation

Rechroming pot metal is a crapshoot....the pits are hard to fill.

Also, very expensive.

The Fusick parts are really nice, and are probably better than NOS.

Joe nailed it. The Parts Place used to sell "NOS" hood pins on eBay that were made by the same manufacturer as the originals with a subtle difference. I have a set from TPP and an NOS set I'd consider parting with if you're interested.

Sure - let me know what you would like for either pair. NOS isn't needed, but would be nice. Mine isn't a show car by any means.

I'm pretty sure it was supercars unlimited where I bought mine and they are still made by the same company that made the originals for GM.
Here's the logo on the bottom side.

I really appreciate all this information - it's nice to know the original supplier is still making these. I've had a couple members reach out with extra sets, and thank you for that. Looks like I'll be ready when the hood gets painted

Just as a follow up, I ordered from SuperCars and they are beautiful and still have the Acsco imprint on the back. The scuff plates are different than the originals, so I'm trying to revive an older set to reuse them. The finished surface and the very light beveled edge is gone from the new parts.

Old vs. new
