Trying to find the numbers on my '69 S convertible before putting it on the auction block in 2 weeks. Book says the 3 speed auto is on the servo unit. Nope. Need to locate that number and the rear end number.

Guide me as to where to look, please.

Turbohydramatic transmissions should have the vin number on the pan flange left side in the middle, I believe. I think the date code is same place on other side. So get under driver door and look at the trans and you should be looking at it. Just above the pan gasket. May be cruddy.

Oldsmobile rears have a two letter code stamped into the RH axle tube, back side, about in the middle. Looking for something like SC, which, if memory serves is 3.08 open rear end.

Came up with the following numbers:

vin:336679M337871
Mtr: 39M337871
trans: 39x149314
differential: R2
Pumpkin itself cast #: 40227 and also OPD4

 

2.56:1 gear ratio, open diff.

That's the standard no-cost rear.
