Is This Not A Shame, But Cool.

Just pulled the carpets out of the 65 f-85 I'm using for parts for my 442 project. I suspect I'm fixing the wrong car. Couldn't believe how solid the floor is. The cool part is this, someone put a 1964 American penny under the carpet, maybe when it was being built. Carpets look original, with underlay and all. I suspect it was a GM factory worker.
You never know !!

You know, I have seen that before. I was helping a buddy with his '68 Camaro a few months ago and we pulled the carpet to replace it and found a '68 penny underneath. That's cool! We put the penny back where we found it after fixing some minor rust issues.

The pictures are of the parts car. I'll cut some sections out and maybe someone can use them. Could be me, although I'm awful thrifty. My 442 floor just has sheet metal laid over big holes.

Not knowing what the project car is (but going from your description) I think you're right.

Dave!

The blue coupe needs floors! Don't sell off the floor until you make it up to my house. Cool to find the 64 penny though. When I pulled the carpet out of my wagon I found the original tag on the carpet with manufacturer and code. I love that stuff.

Cool about the penny. I found a crumpled up tire pressure sticker in my 70sx. Worker must have messed it up and then chucked it there.

Funny about which car to fix. We people in the rust belt will pay the Arizona junkyards to cut out floors and quarters from a pristine body to fix our rust buckets. I guess rebody is a no no but certainly more logical, other than keeping the mig welder manufacturers and body shops in business.

At the speed I'm working, there's no fear of that. It'll take me weeks just to cut the tail pan off so I can show Scotty !!

Should've bought your coupe instead of Gino's sedan. Timing was just off. Isn't that the way of the world, though?

Good point. I'll cut it out as large as I can, and worry about what to do with it later. Someone else may need pieces.
Don't imagine anyone would want a chunk of firewall. Am I safe to cut it out and scrap that, perhaps?

Dave 67 Cutlass and Chevelle was the same firewall, I would assume 65 would be the same as 65 Chevelle and other A bodies.

Might as well get as much out of the car as you can.

It's a pretty heavy chunk of steel to hang on to, though. Not sure if anybody would need non-A/C firewall sections. I'm not aware of them ever rusting.
Suppose I could try a quick CL with it, once it's removed. Has to come off anyway. Got the front six body mounts undone today. Took off the wiper area grille and lubed up the wiper tranny bolts. Too bad a socket won't even fit on them. The heads are too flush to the metal. May need to cut the flanges that they're bolted to, and worry them to death later.
Ah...the joys of retirement.

Depends which pieces, I guess. I'll have to make sure I have what I need for the other one. Sure do appreciate the help, Stan.

Nothing too exciting. Got a fairly straight one stored in the barn but it's covered in heavy surface rust. A few dings.
Got a fairly shiney, older rechromed one here, but it's got numerous dents and bends, and still wearing it's brackets.
Both would need to go in for work of one kind or another.

I'm kind of annoyed at myself. My last 65 442 was sold and the rear bumper was okay, but a couple small rust holes in it that were hard to see. The fellow came to pick it up and I was so excited I threw the freshly reconditioned rear bumper in the trunk for him, still in bubble wrap. Tough to get it in, too, it barely fit. I ran into the fellow that originally sold me the car and he said he spent $1000 on that new back bumper. Boy, wouldn't I love to have that bumper now !!
Yes, I am a goose...

I'll think on it. If I come up with a price I'll PM you. Thanks for asking. By the way, where do you live? These things are really pricey to ship internationally.

Good Morning. I live in Nevada, just outside of Reno. But will be in Detroit area until
Feb. If you decide to sell it, I'm definitely interested and also if you could send some pictures. You could email the pics directly to me at theo2246@yahoo.com
thanks
