Newly acquired 68 442

Here are some pictures of my 68 442 that I just got. It appears to have a 400 engine with 400 transmission. 12 bolt posi. The car has lots of surface rust. Floors and trunk are solid. I will have to patch the right quarter panel and lower right fender. other than that its pretty solid. Convertible top works. looks like it has its original am fm radio. I will also do a frame off on it. All glass is very good with no cracks.

The car was sold on ebay but the winning bidder did not pay for the vehicle. I contacted the seller a few weeks later and he said that it was still available and we made a deal. This car is in much better shape than my 72 was. I would rather a car have a better body than engine anyway, far less work. I ended up replacing both quarters, the floor and the trunk and a fender. The frame on this car is really good also.

Looks like a great project...

I'm a little confused about the headrests though. While the seats are definitely '68, the one I had with them and other ones I've seen used grained, color coded bezels rather than what looks like the 69 and up chrome bezels.

Great score! Your car was built at the same plant as mine, only two weeks later! With regards to the head rest bezels, my brother's '68 has those same bezels and his is a last week of October '67 production at Lansing. I thought '68 and '69 were the same and then they went to a different style of bezel in the '70 model year. Anyway, enjoy your new purchase - looks like a great project with some good options!

you have a great looking car. I have a lot to learn about the 68 model. I don't know at this point what is correct for it. I wont' be keeping it white. my plan is to paint it two toned. black on the sides and silver on the top ,hood deck lid. also from what I am seeing, everything works except the tach.

If your car spent most of its life in Lake County, it's Ohio-rust-free!

Nice looking car. Hope the rust is really only surface. Are you planning to keep it white or go back to original Jade Gold color?

I plan on painting it black on the sides and silver on the upper portion. the top will remain black. it has rust thru on the right lower quarter and the right lower front fender. I have not decided just yet if I will just replace the fender because it has a dent in it also. whoever painted it before must stripped it down to bare metal because there is no indication of it being gold from the paint that is on it. once I do strip it down then I will know how much surface rust is really there.

Good thing is there are patch panels available for the front fenders (typical rust area), and I believe you can also get quarter skins now for 68/69

When you get around to checking the condition of the metal you may be surprised how much aftermarket parts are available for your car.

Nice score. I think mine's a Lansing 04C too. Everything looks pretty original. Someone's messed with the interior a little. The pinstripe is gone from the dash and well as the other minor things others have pointed out.

Great score! That steering wheel can be restored so dont toss it. Great score. One of 3476 ATs made. I had one too. Snapped in half! Parted it. It was original down to some of the hose clamps. It was so bad one the rear lower control arms was rotted in half. That made it rather difficult to flat bed for sure. But it ran. Ill have another vert soon.

Didn't know about the wheel restoration. Who does that?
