Newbie's first impressions of board
I always liked old cars, but never really thought about buying one. I had an opportunity out of the blue this summer to acquire my 1970 98 (picture on my profile). I am 52 and it has really re-energized my life (please no comments about needing a life). I really like working on it and fixing it up and just looking at it. I was very pleasantly surprised so many here are into it too. Who wulda thunk there was a board like this? One thing that is sort of amazing is some people have thousands of posts here. I have 10,000 posts on a football board over 10 years, but that is easy cuz if you post during games it is easy to rack up 50 in a day. You have to be real interested in Oldsmobiles to have 3000 posts here. The other thing I think is really cool is some of the pictures show enthusiasts much younger than I. It is nice to see appreciation of classic American cars will not die with us older guys. Anyway, those are some initial impressions.

I'm a youngun at 31 and I've owned Oldsmobile (Cutlass Supreme) for 16 years now. I've built 4 - 455's for my dad's and my own cars...I don't use the site for too much help, but I love to be able to help others when I can. It did surprise me to see some 17 - 21 year old guys on the General Discussion post about age. Glad to know it's not just me that likes these cars

Hello and welcome to the Olds forum! I just looked and your Ninety Eight is beautiful! I love the "LAST 98" plates too....I'm sure that's regarding the last year of the convertible...such a shame they dropped it. Anyway, I have 2 76 Ninety Eight Regency Coupes and I'm sure you'll agree that an Olds Ninety Eight is truly an amazing car. I'm 34 and my black 98 has been in my family for over 32 years and will continue to be in my family as long as possible.
Welcome again!

Welcome aboard. I've been using this site now for about 3 years and my impression of it now is the same when I came in. There is a treasure trove of info here - I've used it extensively. As well, it's just a lot of fun to converse with other Olds enthusiasts. Have fun here and enjoy your 98!

Welcome to the board.
I love the full size highway cars like your 98.
I enjoyed reading your story. I like to attend car shows and read the boards.Gives me a chance to interact with other car people and gearheads. I like to see how others enjoy their car. Their sure are alot of different tastes when it comes to cars.
The amount that I have learned from reading boards and the information available on the internet amazes me.
Americans love affair with the automobile is an interesting hobby for me.
As far as # of posts, to me quality of posts are more important than quantity of posts.

[QUOTE=76 Regency;324795]
I owned a 71 98 sedan in 1978 for a couple years. I was 19 then and it was a true party mobile. I remember driving home from a lake on a Nebraska highway with six people (2 girls in bikinis), air conditioning on, towing a boat up a grade at 120 MPH. The engine was just purring. A stupid kind of thing I did at that age, but a fond memory never the less. It was a truly amazing car as you know. When I saw the 1970 98 this summer, all those memories came back, which probably factored into my buying it. Can we say mid-life crisis?
