New Years Goals for 2017

I don't want to call is a resolution because I am not trying to better myself in anyway. So I will call it a goal. Or in my case three Goals.

1st Goal: Buy a car Cutlass from either Copart or IAAI insurance auctions

2nd Goal: Buy a car out west, fly out to pick it up and drive it back home

3rd Goal: Turn a small profit on both purchases, or at least not lose any money

In 2016 I sold used cars on a car lot and I bought my first Cutlass from Ebay. Both of these ventures proved to be a learning experience. Selling cars has brought me experience in the current used car market. Beware of lemans! And my Ebay experience was fun and exciting while teaching me be very cautious of Ebay sellers. I never got the title for the car I bought even though it was promised to me.

If you don't make mistakes your not making anything. You never lose if you learn something. All the best in 2017.

Sounds great! I have had some amazing experiences doing this. I never did one with a goal in mind up front but just when the situation arises. Some times I was able to create the situation and other times they just happened. If you are very careful with much patients, you will be able to make a little while having a ball. If you keep doing it over a long period of time, now and then you will hit a home run and now and then you will loose. Just try to average it in the positive side and don't count your time as valuable to begin with.
You will find many people trying to give you advice (like I am doing) and take it all as input and not gospel. Do what works for you in the budget you can afford to loose if something goes wrong.

I have been lucky for the most part. My worst deals I have broke even on.

Good luck in your ventures. I sold cars for a long time. The ones you think you'll make a killing on you don't, the ones that you don't you do, go figure.

You make $$$$ off a car/parts when you buy them, not when you sell them. I have been doing this for a long time,30 + years and it's been a great hobby that you may get lucky with. Home runs,oh yeah and they don't come around often but when they do,what a great feeling. I have parted cars that should have never been parted but @ the time, you didn't think they would ever dry up but now that the pickings are limited,I see where I screwed up big time. I remember the time I parted a 70 W-30 4 speed conv. and ........never mind.

My goal is the following.

I just bought 2 patch panels for my cutlass. I want to get one installed before spring driving season. I have never done anything that major on any car. I will make a thread so everyone can watch and maybe inspire someone else to try.

Move from suburbia into 1 bedroom house in the woods with 50 acres and a 80x150 concrete floored, wired, heated, A/C'd, full facilitied pole barn out back. Oh ya... and a heard of 200 class white tailed bucks running around. Then I can finally get goin on the car collection/restoration collection...again.

Going to try to keep my work week capped to a maximum of 55hrs now that I'm 50. My wife has been bugging me for a few years now to slow it down. So I figure its time.
