NEW R69 Delco Energizer Decal Available!

About a month ago on the Buick site, we were discussing batteries and toppers. I was trying to help somebody detail their topper to look "real". Personally, I run repro Delco batteries, but I know they are cost prohibitive for many people. I was explaining about the "eye", it's correct position on the battery, and how I hated the toppers because of the "eye". I mentioned to the person wanting to improve the topper about the R59 decal on the top. This person works with graphics or something like that and made an R69 decal. I believe R69's were used on 1969 442's. R69's were the HD version of the R59. Thy were used on hi-po Chevy's Buicks, etc. This is only a lead, I'm not selling them. I thought some people may be interested.

This is the thing I have owned at least 6 out of the box new R-69s and not one of them have had this sticker on them.
Out of the 100 or so new original batteries I have owned of various sizes, none carry this type of sticker on them.

The NOS R69 I just sold did not have a sticker saying R69 either.

R69s were used on Cutlass 400s from mid-1966 to 1969. The 1966 W30 installation instructions showed the R69.

Also used on Cutlasses with HD starter or HD battery options.

It was 3/4" taller than the R59 and had about 15% more Cold Cranking Amps.

I once had a conversation with a guy who was a Antique Auto Battery dealer. I ordered a R59 from him and asked why they didn't repo the R69. He said they didn't use the R69 in 66 and I told him they damn sure did. I gave him the Delco HD battery part # from the 66 PIM and he said, damn never knew that.

It seems I recall the sticker was an OE thing and not found on the OEM batteries.

At least someone finally got the spelling right on the R69 sticker.....freaking repro places couldn't even spell "WITH" correctly. Ridiculous.

Here's a link showing some old battery info and with an R69 sticker on it. There's a lot of misunderstandings about the batteries. The stickers I linked are the type that came on them on the assembly line AFAIK. The other larger type of sticker was on the over the counter batteries. The red letters were only on over the counter batteries. The R69 was like an inch or so taller than the R59. I'd agree with you Gary on that. The "eye" always goes in the second hole from the (+) terminal, always AFAIK. The biggest thing people seemed to be confused about is the "eye". There is just mass confusion on it, you've got to be really old to know. The "eye" in that particular time was never green. It never turned green under any condition. The eye was black when the battery was full, when the battery went low, it glowed. The "eye" was always placed in the position I mentioned because that's the area that went low on fluid first. I'm talking about from the factory. At some point (maybe mid-late 70's) The "eye" worked differently and showed green when full. So...the topper eye should actually be black, that's what I hate that red eye! Not green, not red, black. I had a slew of NOS eyes, but sold most of them over on the Buick site. I know Patton...I proof read the R69 sticker before it was printed. Here's the link:

You're welcome, Patton! For Mike, I don't know why they never made a R69 with them being so commonly used back then. I don't know why nobody's ever done the sticker before, either. I think people would be happy just to have the sticker included when they bought the repro battery even if it was a bit shorter. Then they could use what they want. For Gary, I think there may have been another larger dimension battery for the H/O's at least in 1969.

Batt topper

Installing the battery within the next few weeks into my 69 H/O and wondering if someone can provide the dimensions to the topper?
Trying to determine if it will accommodate Delco's 34AGMA battery.

Thank you,
Lew
