Doc and his daughter had two of these at Barrett Jackson a couple of years ago. Got to spend some time chatting with them late one evening about the Camaro's and old (Hurst Olds) times.
Cool cars.
Now I'm sad.....

To tell the truth i don't get it i am sorry! Why would Doc build this/make this when GM killed oldsmobile! Then to adorn it like a w car! I hope gm collapses in to nothing!I will never buy a new chevy period.A old one 72 on down but nothing newer!JMO

development of the marauder started in 98. so it wasnt 10 years later. the original plan was to have a S/C version from the factory but the regulations helped kill that. other than the intake the marauder engine is identical to the 03-04 Cobra so its got much more potential than the LT1 iron head SS engine. another thing was that the MM was spec'd for 4:10 gears as opposed to the 3;55s it got but again, regulations caused the change. the impala had 3;08s. I' couldnt be happier with the MM and its 32valve DOHC engine. my buddy had a green 96SS and after he drove my MM he said he would never bought the Impala and not long after i blew his doors off he sold it. I'm by NO means a ford guy, but i couldnt deny the panther platform and the Marauder. I even drove it last winter and it was an absolute blast to drive in the snow. This year its getting garaged for the winter but I love the car. Just cracked 90K.

To each his own, but stock vs stock, I liked the SS better. I can only base that on one test drive of the MM, but one thing I noticed that bothered me was that the tranny always seemed to be hunting...never settled into a gear. Have a new Buick Regal that does the same thing a bit, but it has a 6-speed so can understand it a bit more.
It's too bad the SS and MM didn't overlap...I think the competition would have yielded even better cars.

I have no interest in the Camaro, just can't get my mind wrapped around it.
The MM was hands down a much better car than the SS. Funny thing, the damn things never caught on and sat on the lots until the dealers marked them down enough to get rid of them. I loved the way they drove with some great performance for their time. Best kept secret in the sport sedan category.
The problem was the Grand Marquis was considered an old blue haired car. The Marauder, Mountaneer, Aviator, Navigator, and Jaguar based LS (Lincolns little hotrod), were all introduced to attract the younger folks.

Cool story, I'm not really into the prototype either, I do like the 442 that was illustrated by someone at one point which was based on the Camaro.
I too like the MM overall better than the SS but not much more. Though the SS felt way quicker off the lot. Unfortunately the MM had the wrong gearing and too little displacement. With a SC on it, its a great sleeper that handles better than one would realize and is a great cruising car. Also, not many around anymore, I see way more SS's on the road than MMs. Doesn't mean they are worth anything but you just don't see them much anymore.

If you liked the Marauder, you'd like the CVPI, especially 2005 or newer. No, it's not as luxurious, but acceleration, braking, and cornering is probably as good or better.
The V8 LS was killer. Fun car. But I just couldn't see buying a jaguar engine, hydraulic engine-cooling fan, and A/C lines piped through the driver's seat.
