New Exhaust for 70 442

Has anyone tried the aluminized dual exhaust from The Parts Place? I see it for $429 plus shipping. It appears to be 2-1/4" head pipes, mufflers, and tail pipes. I'm looking for stock style mufflers and sound. I currently have Walker stock style mufflers. Thanks

Go to ILT. For a couple hundred bucks more ($690) you get everything, 2.25 in. pipes, stock style mufflers, head flanges, all the hangers and clamps and the chrome tips. I have put them on several cars. They fit great and I love the sound. Great rumble but no booming in the car

Are you going to install the system or have a professional?
The reason I ask,I have bought enough from them and learned the hard way...when you call to inquire about installation of their ill fitting parts, they will tell you that you are the only one to have this problem and you need to have a professional install it.
After hearing this from them on the 3rd time,I only use them as a last resort. Luckily that last resort option has not had to be used yet.

I second this thought !!!!

On another note I purchased the PYPES setup several years back.. Not a bad setup and was able to install it on my back in the garage. I ended up after all that taking in to a shop because one tailpipe needed tweeked. Your probably better to purchase a quality setup and pay a good shop the labor to get the car up in the air, they can line it all up, weld some stuff up and dial it in. Dont make the #1 mistake of ruining a good car either by sticking the pipes to far out the back. Good luck

Parts Place exhaust?

I appreciate the other suggestions, but like to hear from someone that actually purchased the $429 Parts Place system. I always install exhaust myself, I have a lift and a mig welder if needed. Thanks again, Bob

I know a couple of shops that focus on 442/A body restorations and a common response from them is same regarding The Parts Place products. Give them credit for offering some items that others don't carry, but fit/finish can be a problem. Any yes, it is always the first time they have ever heard a complaint when you call them and it must the buyers issue more times than not.

Sounds like Gardner's nice stuff, especially if you're going to show your car for points.
Just be sure you're sitting down when they finally quote you the price for one of their exhaust systems.

Gardner makes some nice systems for those looking for a 100% restoration, but they are pricey for sure. Musclecar Review is doing a restoration on a '69 Yenko Chevelle and the Gardner exhaust for that car ran $1,700. Pypes, MagnaFlow, and Flowmaster all make systems for the GM A-Body, but only Pypes makes a system specifically to fit the 442 bumper cutouts. It comes in 3 versions: X-Pipe system-http://classicmusclecarexhaust.com/p...5-x-pipe-sga12
X-Change system- http://classicmusclecarexhaust.com/p...x-change-sga16
True Dual - https://classicmusclecarexhaust.com/...rue-dual-sga29
They also have Downtubes if you're not using headers- http://classicmusclecarexhaust.com/p...-455-pypdof10s and OEM style tips-http://classicmusclecarexhaust.com/p/68-72-olds-442. You have a choice of 3 different mufflers, or without mufflers so you can run any muffler you want.
