New addition to fleet
New addition to fleet
Hi,
Just picked up a 1972 Buick Skylark Custom convertible and I was wondering where I can find service and chassis manuals online. No luck at Wild About Cars. Not a member of V8 Buick yet so...... Can't decipher the cowl tag.
Thanks,
Lou

Oldcutlass is right. Buick would have used different names for the paint colors but all the FB data plate info is similar.
A Skylark Custom convert should start with 44467. 4= Buick, 44= Skylark Custom, 67= convertible. If it was built in Buick City, should have something like FLT or FNT in the assembly plant code. Other plant codes would be the same as Olds and Pontiac that were built in a BOP assembly plant.
Looking in the 72 FB manual, surprisingly it appears Buick considered the SportWagon a subset of the GS series. That series 43400 is the only place the 36 station wagon with dual action tailgate body code is listed for Buick and actually notes 36 Sport Wagon.
We must remember that the Vista Cruiser model 4856/ 4866 was a model unto itself by then and no one had it but Oldsmobile, Buick having dropped the skyroof in 1970 when they reintroduced the full-size LeSabre Estate wagon.

Well- ya gotta ask why? It's still better than having a bellybutton SBC transplant, but why would anyone go to the trouble to stick a 307 in there?
I guess options were limited. Buick hasn't built their own V8 since 1980, so I imagine they're not plentiful now.

I don't know. The seller said the 350 Buick it came with was blown and he had the 307 in a beat up Omega. It's good enough. I see the car as a cruiser not a hot rod. We'll see. I sold the Buick 455 I had a couple of months ago. It was a torque monster. That would have been sweet.
