Ben,

If no one responds, Shane Reichlin at 442ranch@yahoo.com might be able to help you out with one

if you can wait until tomorrow, I will go over to the body shop and make up a template for you. Which side do you need, or do you need both?? let me know if you have a preference for what type of material....

paper would fine, i can trace it later onto posterboard or something.
I think if i get one side, I should be able to flip it for the other side.

I need the cutout shape & also location of the tabs.. but also some sort of reference marks too... like distance to the rear of the fender & distance down to the body line/crease.

If you could take a few closeup pics of the opening & the tabs to go with the drawing it it would really be awesome.

Much appreciated!
Ben

Bringing this back to the top... Fred sent me his template back in july- but I was waiting for winter to take on the project (since it will involve pulling my inner fenders).

Anyway, over the weekend Pulled out the template paper he had sent- basically a peice of masking paper they taped over the fender opening, and shot spray paint from the inside out, with marks for locating the edge of the fender & lower bodyline edge.

I transposed it over to some stiff poster board & cut out the opening... took a couple attempts to get the size perfect.

Then Yesterday i went over to a friends house who also has a 66 442, and i took measurements from his L&R fenders w/ the scoops installed.

When i got home and compared them (installed the scoops in my template & drew a line for the outside edge) to what i'd gotten from Fred, they were right on.

So the dremel will be coming out and i'll be putting a couple huge holes in my fenders in a day or two!

I'll scan & post up the measurement info & the template when I'm all done in case anyone else needs it.

Have not decided yet if i'm going to try to cut and replicate the "tabs" to hold it, or just cut the opening completely out and use a couple straps over the back to hold it on.

straps would probably be easier. Guess its gonna depend how close i get the opening it the first time.

Thumbs up

Ben,

Glad the template worked out for you and keep me updated on the progress of your fenders. I've got to install the front carpet yet on mine and throw in the buckets and then I'm ready to fire the motor and put the front clip on if all is ok. Core support and radiator in but the rest of the front end is still off. I'm sure there's a ton of minor things I have to do yet, but I definitely feel like progress is being made. Good luck with your
project

Thanks fred- Wife took our two kids out to visit freinds this evening, so I got to make a little noise :-)

Unfortunatly (for me) looks like pulling the inner fenders won't be enough- i may need to pull the front fenders in order to properly attach these. I made up some strap brackets that will take the place of the original tabs on the back side- but I'm doubtful i can access it so close to the cowl, even with the inner fender out.

If i get some time this weekend i'll pull the pass side inner fender and see if i can't make something work to get the speed nuts on. If not, i'll start unbolting stuff to get the fenders off.

Still need to finish polishing & painting the scoops too.

anyway, i'm happy with the progress so far. Sure do like the way those scoops look on there!

Sorry this looks retarded- got squished when converting from PDF landscape to JPG portrait.

This represents measurements to the outside of the scoop bezel.

The bottom two lines represent the peak of the body line & the top edge of the lower trim. The lower number is the total distance from the edge of the scoop to the edge of the trim.

The measurements from the top of the fender down were made WITHOUT bending the tape measure- these were just double check measurements- the lower are rear measurements were really what were primarily used.

Finished this project up over the last 2 weeks... And incredibly I was able to do it without removing the Fenders!

I made up two retainer brackets that spanned all 4 studs on the back of the scoop- then bent the two sides 90 and trimmed them so they'd be even with the fender sheetmetal. I then took some spare plastic windlace i had and put over the edge so there would be no chance of a rattle.

I had to remove the bottom fender to body bolts- but then was able to carefully pull out the fender and stuck some towels inbetween teh fender and the door- not a lot of space- but enough to get my arm and a racheting box end wrench inbetween the cowl section and the fender to install the speed nuts.

Since these scoops were used peices, the nuts didn't tighten the best- so before installing I brushed jbweld over the studs- then after installing the speed nuts- i brushed a little more jbweld over the top to prevent them from backing off. They are on there to stay now.

Finished up the drivers side last night- Inner fender back in & fenders bolted up. Took the car out today for its first drive since thanksgiving!

Man those scoops are sexy!

Glad to hear

you got the rockets installed Ben. Sounds like you figured out a better way
of getting them attached then I had suggested. Monday I will mount the
first fender and inner wheel well on mine. It's really getting close now.

Again, congrats....
