Need some help for 3 questions! (Heat Tube, Air Cleaner Hose, Jar...)
Hi guys!
Slowly restoring my 69 Cutlass Supreme, and have some questions, as I see that some parts are missing in my engine compartment!
1-There are 2 small vacuum hoses connected to the air cleaner.
The one coming from the air intake and going to the air cleaner was cut, and the part connected to the air intake was stucked with a big screw!
Do you know why the previous guy did this?
What is this tube for?
2- My Exhaust Manifold Heat Tube is missing (along with the filter).
What is this tube for?
3- Where/how is this jar attached??
Thanks a lot for your help!

The vacuum line kept the valve on the snorkel closed while the engine was cold, which caused the engine to draw warm air through the tube that ran down from the snorkel to the exhaust manifold. When it warmed up, the valve in the snorkel opened up and would draw air in through the snorkel to the carb.
The other is an after market radiator overflow tank, so it can be mounted where ever you want. You have to have the right kind of radiator cap that allows coolant to be forced out when hot, and drawn back in as it cools. If your engine and cooling system is working properly, it is not necessary. My Cutlass has never puked even a single drop of coolant in the 8 years I've owned it, and I use the A/C year round in south Florida.

Cristophe, I think you are a person who would benefit from spending the $10 (€8) to download the manuals from WildAboutCars, even if you have already ordered an original set on paper.
Anyway, this may clarify things for you:

Thanks a lot!
Already downloaded and printed the 1969 Cutlass Assembly Manual.
Did you find the pics you posted in another manual? (Factory Manual)
Would of course spend the money for it!
Maybe if you have a direct link on wildaboutcars?
Tanks a lot!

Those pictures are from pages 6N-1, 6N-2, and 6N-5 of the 1969 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual (Chapter 6N: Controlled Combustion System).
The €8 you spend at WildAboutCars entitles you to download an unlimited amount from the Automotive History Preservation Society. Go back and look at my previous post and you will see there is a link there.
You will need the Assembly Manual, the Chassis Service Manual, and the Fisher Body Manual, and may want to download the 1969 SPECS Guide to learn about the options available that year.

-What is the consequence on the engine?
