When you are ready make sure oil is in the engine and have the distributer out. Stick a secured 5/16 6 point socket on an extension and turn the oil pump driveshaft counter clockwise with a strong electric drill. You will see the oil pump drive shaft down in the distributer hole. This will prelube the engine and you can verify that you have oil pressure with a gauge installed before running the engine. After this install the distributer properly and start the engine. Make sure gas tank is clean and fuel is good.

Once had a BB Chev that was sitting for 10 yrs. Asked the same question of a friend, and was told to pull the plugs, squirt Marval Magic Mystery Oil in all the cylinders, and let it sit overnight with the plugs just screwed in.
Next day, pull the plugs, [and the coil wire] crank the motor to get the MM oil out, prime the engine oil, and get fuel to the carb, re-install the plugs + wires, and start it!
Well. it started, ran like crap for a couple minutes, and cleared out!
Went and got 5 gals. of premium, and it ran a lot better!
Sat for another year before I got it in another car, and probably went 20k miles before I started modifications, without a problem!!

Starting engine
You may want to start the engine and run it for a while before replacing the gaskets. It is proably not neccessary to replace all gaskets or even any gaskets. Since there is always the possiblity of a leak even with new gaskets no use doing it twice if not called for. Dave
