Need Cutlass Inspection
Need Cutlass Inspection
Hello,
Anyone know of a person or shop that can inspect a 1971 Cutlass for me. Around 20 minutes from Sacramento, Calif. airport.
I need to get engine vin verification (trans/rear end too), but also really need someone that can do a thorough body inspection for rust or damage repair on a convertible.
Looking for an Olds knowledgeable person to inspect this car. Will pay the going rate.
Thanks for any leads

Hello Harv, of course I remember you. I used to live in Tracy before I moved to Texas. I hope you're doing well.
There is a 1971 Cutlass Supreme SX convertible I'm interested in up around Sacramento. I would like to see if I can confirm that it is a real SX car. This means it should have a 455, 4bbl engine with th400 AT. Without documentation it's really hard to authenticate these cars. I also try to look behind the fender - through the door jam - to see if the "Cutlass" and "SX" fender scripts appear to be factory mounted in the correct positions.
My other concern with this car is the body. It spent most of its life in the northeast so I'm concerned about any rust repair done prior to the paint job. And also concerned about the quality of the paint.
Thanks for the reply. Let me know if you'd be able to look at this car and know someone who could soon.
Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks. Yes, he is aware that I'm doing research on the car and trying to get someone over to look at it for me.
I'll touch base with you again next week.
Thanks again, Harv.

Check for the big block fender braces that attach in the holes just ahead of the hood hinges.
And see if the trans is coded "OD" and the transmission VIN derivative matches the VIN on the dashboard.

Convertibles didnt get the fender brace, but the OD coded trans with matching VIN derivative is a good clue
Thanks for the additional info guys, I appreciate it.
The owner can't seem to check the engine vin because the power steering bracket is in the way. Guess I (or whoever inspects it) will have to try with mirrors.
