Name of car
How does one arrive at a name for their car and/or truck?
Any suggestions, advice? Can you give me some input?
How did you come up with the name you did for your car?

Mine was nicked-named the Beast due to the excellent gas mileage it gets She's mostly called the 442 although the wife has named her "Christine" because about 25 years ago I was at a park and when I came back to the car the left front bumper was pushed under the headlights. There was no fender or front panel damage. It was Friday. On Monday I took it in to the body shop to get an estimate. The adjuster went outside and came in three times asking what's the problem, was it the blue 442 etc. I went out to show Stevie Wonder the bumper, and it was back in place. It was magic!

78 Delta - Deltasauras - Was given to it by my Uncle as a joke. I named her Destiny because it was just that...
The Bullitt - Misty. As in Misty Blue. Sometimes, we've called her "Blue"
I had an 87 Cutlass named "Alice" and an 85 named "Trouble". The 85 was nothing but trouble, and was a driving point in my first divorce.
The 78 Cutlass was named "Stolen" I got it dirt cheap, drove it home, and then 2 days later, it was stolen.
Had a Mustang named "Sally" (of course) and a Mustang named "Silver"

I call it the Olds, she calls it "that stupid car". My Petty Blue 69 Road Runner was "that stupid blue thing".
I call it "justifiable homicide"

Growing up our Ninety Eight was always just called "The Olds" and it has kept that name to this day. My burgundy 98 is simply called "the red car" lol. It's funny since they're both '76 98's and some people tend to call the red one The Olds and I actually correct them LOL.

I'm not big into naming cars either. The Delta is usually just called the "Olds" and the Cutlass is "the Cutlass".
In highschool some of my friends called the Delta the Beast. Probably not because of power, but because of its size compared to their cars and the fact it had a V8. Some of my friends also named it Lucille, a) because I refused to name it and b) because they said it looked like a Lucille.

Starfires are called "green car" or "blue car" depending on which one I refer to at the time.
Ninety Eight is "the big car".
Hurst is "the Pace Car".
Toronado is the Lizard King.
Cruiser wagon is the Gray Ghost.
Truck is simply "the Ford truck".
All of them are called !#$%^&*! on occasion.

Yep...I thought I'd married Jamesbo's wife's sister cos his wife likes to orchestrate his life and so does mine, but now I'm thinking there's a third sister.

Though to be clear (and fair) she loves the 442 (well sometimes) and even drives it. The Marauder is just loud, too fast and impossible to drive in the winter - so its the stupid car - and believe me sometimes I agree 572hp 410s, 3500 stall, 10 mpg all as my daily driver

All your names sound GREAT! Very funny too! My 10 yr old stepson says I should name it after his mom and then he mentioned..."I cant say that, it sounds weird that I'm sitting on mom or that we are taking mom for "a ride" " He said a few other suggestions in the "adult manner" but we wont go there! He's a quick learner when certain adults are nearby.
I never really had names for cars either. Back in '74 my bro named his '65 Chevy Carryall, "Martha". He said it looked like her, I never met Martha so I don't know if he was complimenting the truck or Martha! The '65 was blue with a white roof and the beloved Union 76 orange decal on one of rear cargo doors. The truck i mean, not Martha. The names Oldsmobiles have for their cars seem to take on more of a persona for th fyjfcat particular car. Unlike Chevy's or Buick's have, I won't go on here about other manufactures names, I may offend someone. Cutlass is a beautiful name to begin with. "Thirsty" is appropriate cause it drinks alot! "Beast" cause well...it is! I like "Otto" or "68".
Thanks for all your input!
And is it just a personal and/or common nature to name a car after a woman than for any other person or reason?
Aceshigh--I like your name of Wallet Bleeder! On key indeed! I like the "Hockey stripe" on your Cutlass, is that from a '68 Camaro?
Fdwheelman-- I love your '78 Delta 88 Holiday 88! It is gorgeous! Any more pics avail? I test drove one back in '99 but it drank a 1/4 tank within 1/2 mile of travel!

I normally don't name cars, but, the '69 "98" below was "The Green Monster" because
before I redid it as you see it in the pic, it was that pukey pea green color that was out in those years.
Plus, it was 18'-6" long, One inch shorter than the '75 Eldorado in the bottom pic.
By the way the Caddy was "Big Red".

Not to hijack the thread but here is one from today - looks like a fastback kind of like the old Monte's, 442s or a new panamerica - the car is completely stock on the instide and outside, all mods were to suspension and engine - does mid 12's on the cruddy stock tires.
