My old car is now in Kuwait

This morning I was watching speed channel and I see a commercial for Chasing Classic Cars. In the commercial I see my old 19 72 w-30 4 speed in Kuwait. Next owner after me painted it Teal with a tan top. Was my daily driver for years and now belongs to some King or something. That was crazy to see.

Beautiful car. Curious if this was a legal transaction, or the car was stolen and shipped out of the country. This happens a lot more than you might think, as not exactly like paper work really matters in some of these countries.

How much did you sell it for?
How do you know it was yours with a different colour just by seeing it on TV?
Thanks

I sold it to the next owner who sold it to the Robson Collection who died and auctioned it to the king guy............Easy to identify my old car. Teal with tan stripes (up slightly in the front) tan top and brown interior and bumper guards (one of 32 4 speed cars too) with a rear wing too. No doubt it is my old car. That is not a stock olds color.

An interesting side note on that car is that when it was auctioned from the Robson collection it was listed as a California car. When I bought it 20+ years ago it had Pennsylvania plates. I still have the picture of my $1,000 1972 w-30 convt 4 speed right after I purchased it.

Well if it belongs to a King or something, I don't think there's any issues with spending money to keep it going and looking good. Beautiful car BTW. I didn't realize they put rear deck wings on in 72 - the AM says it was discontinued in 71... I like the color combo very much

Maybe the Robson auction claimed CA heritage because it was yours in CA for the previous 20? You obviously looked after it very well. And it's in another dry climate where it should last another 150 years at least. Definitely no worries about running out of gas!

Saw the same episode. Supposedly the King has a 2,500+ collection of cars. They showed a brief shot of some of the cars. Pretty amazing.

I saw the same commercial, but the way they showed the Teal 72 W30, it appeared to be an old shot from the Milton Robson Collection as shown here:

Where exactly did you see it in the trailer for Chasing Classic Cars? Could it have been for the Milton Robson Auction?

I saw the Teal 72 W30 when I was at Milton's auction. I shot a bunch of pics of that car. (BTW, he is very much alive)

My car won best Muscle Car at the Kuwait Concours d'Elegance and I did not see your car there at the show.

I am currently builting my 72 vert to bring to the Kuwait show next February.

I am recording the episode of Chasing Classic Cars tonight and will watch for my old car. It was tied to the Kuwait show so I will try to figure out the connection. Should have never sold the car, friend talked me into selling it to him then a few years later sold it into the Robson Collection.

I looked at the trailer, it seems they mixed the Robson auction video with the Kuwait show, I went back to my MR auction pics and confirmed it.

I would have loved to buy it but I think it went for mid 70's?

Yes it was a rare car but just a driver. I gave the next owner two transmissions. I took out the numbers matching one so I wouldn't break it. I will bet it never got back into the car. Most of the sheetmetal was also replaced because the car came from Pennsylvania. Fenders, quarters deck lid. Floors and frame were good. I probably drove that car as a daily driver for more than 5 years. Very fun but no a/c in the summer.

It was definitely a driver. I found myself gravitating to the car. I must have shot 100 pics of it. I was even thinking of bidding on it but most of the cars got top money (and beyond) there.

I watched the show, I actually like the show as it is more about the cars and less about the drama of messed up people (aren't we all?). It was interesting to see a side of Kuwait the average American probably has no clue exists, me included.

As for the 442 I turned my back for 2 seconds and thought I missed them showing the collection. They never did show his collection did they.

Stan, it looks like your Chevelle got a lot of face time over there.

Nice story. I thought being I chicago for mcacm was fun but that was a great trip. Hope you go represent Oldsmobile next year and I guess my old w-30 is somewhere. If I had the money I would have bought my old car back to keep the set together 70, 71, 72 w-30 4 speed converts. Lee

I finaly watched the show on the DVR tonight and compared it to the show from Milton Robson from few weeks back. The trailer contained shots from the Milton Robson show. Here is the final selling result of the Teal W30:

Wing was available as a dealer installed option in 72. Never was a factory option on verts. The profile of the pedestal bottoms is different than the deck lid shape for those cars.

Great looking cars for sure. Not sure how I feel about those cars being bought up by foreign royalty though.......

Guess it's all good if they are kept nice and appreciated.
