My New Uniform
My New Uniform
After a long career in the Military, getting up every morning and putting on a uniform, I was excited about the prospect of retiring and hanging up that uniform forever. I was going to be officially done with uniforms, all uniforms. For me it was going to be jeans and t-shirts for the rest of my life. Well, that didn't pan out exactly like I thought it would.
I was tearing up my clothes working in the shop all day. And getting the grease out of my t-shirts was darn near impossible. So I figured I'd buy a few mechanic's shirts. There must be a reason for their existence. They must be easier to maintain.
After searching the web for something cool I decided why not go with a vintage look. A vintage look would go with my working on vintage cars. So I revised my search, now looking for vintage mechanic's shirts.
I never realized how difficult it would be to find something I liked that would also fit well. In the end I wound up buying my shirts from Northern Tool and putting vintage patches on them. I bought dark navy blue shirts to hide the dirt and grease. I even bought several navy blue t-shirts to go underneath the mechanic's shirt. IMO it looks more professional. I also switched from expensive Levi's to inexpensive Wrangler jeans.
I have three uniforms for work and one for wearing to cruise ins and car shows. While all four are almost identical, the one pictured is for use at Cruise ins and car shows. It’s the newest.
After three months of use I have to admit, they’re real comfortable to work in. I am glad I did it.

Pretty darn cool there mister! For working in the yard or garage I buy my jeans at Salvation Army. I can usually get a pair for a few bucks and won't worry if they rip or I get something on them. I do like the work shirt and patches though. Pretty cool!
I did the same thing with Dickies coveralls. Had mom sew on some Olds patches and they look really cool. My buddies gave me grief for looking like Mike the Mechanic until they get completely covered in trans fluid by lying under a car during a swap or some such. He who laughs last, laughs best. I work at the CBOT and wear a trader's jacket. Here's one.
That's pretty sweet I like the patches. I wear an insulated 1 piece work suit ( like a Carhartt) in the winter and a similar uninsulated work suit in the summer. Easy to put on and off and keeps the grease and dirt outta the car and house and as you noted off my clothes.
Put a clean shirt on and go fetch some more supreme's for parting!!!

Thanks for all the postive comments.
I am also using the shirt as a tool to help sale parts. Should anyone be asking about Olds parts people in the area should be responding with my name or at least "you know there is a guy who sells parts, he wears a shirt with Oldsmobile patches on it".

Tom, I love the shirt but I'm so messy I need coveralls. Color of choice is red because it hides boo boo smears. Also looks uber cool with battle scars of grease and paint
