My journey with THIS Olds.

Happy Fathers day to all the Dads out there!
If your going to bring a beater home do it today,
no better day than father's Day... Love it.
Keeps that *** from getting chewed on so hard, lol.
14 hrs on the road with my oldest son yesterday,
towing the 70 home from Denver City, what a sh*t hole.
Nice people anyway. Got there after I asked questions. Him,
"I told you both front side glasses were busted out."
Me, 'No you told me one, and you said the windshield at
the glass was not rusty, just had some sand blown up
in it.' No drive shaft and half a console. Oh well, what did
I expect for $510 off the evil-bay, I knew the interior was sh*t, ha ha.
After closer inspection this morning, "The Good Stuff"...
455 2 bbl. Hmmm, is this an SX? W-Z's, 3 core rad; all the a/c stuff,
buckets, console, notched valve covers. Big block battery tray, no rot on the
tray or core support, yaay. No rusty rear qrts. trunk floor or floorboards, yaay.
All the harness seems to be in place, most of the trim, etc.
I have a few pics, I will try to post but I don't seem to have any
luck with that...I jacked with it this morning and got it to run, knocks like hell, but it is #'s match, has an OD code 400 turbo. Here's some of the #'s
I have on it:cowl, st 70 342257 LAN 342990. TR 973 25 A 018 B85.
VIN: 342570M2430XX.
Just wanted to share, I'm excited!

Click below for pictures. Thanks to my younger son!

Ask me how I know. And how long a woman's memory is...

That is some funny S**t Eric!
And I know all about the memory thing.
If I forget, she'll remind me everytime.
I think I do it sometimes just to see if
she's paying attention!

Is it a numbers matching engine? Bumper doesnt have the cut outs. Doesn't have the SX badging or holes for it so I wouldn't get your hopes up on that.

No, I went in on the hope of finding an old Cutlass with
some good bones to work with. I feel that I achieved that.
The W-Z's, E heads, 2.bbl. carb, buckets and console were
just bonuses as it were. I am pretty sure it's a peg-leg Supreme
with a few options added. All in all for us Olds guys, snagged a
deal from the evil-bay, finally. I had been hunting for a while.
I am pretty sure it is a # match. It was double stamped on the
pad. 1st time I ever saw that. The first stamp didn't take, you
could tell, because 4 of the numbers were the same on the better
UPSIDE down stamping. Go figure, they did match the vin. I was hoping
the pics came out, my youngest blasted through that stuff yesterday
so fast I might not be able to post pics again till he comes back home, lol.
I think I am going to sell off the side trim and vinal trim from it, because
I just don't like it personally. Keeping only the chrome wheel well moldings with 72 marker lights. Two tone maybe, but I doubt it. One color like say
Defiant one's 72. Man I like that. I have some 69 LY code chromies and
some nos caps I have been holding onto...now I know why. If someone
can help decode the #'s, Allan, That would be great, lol.

Thanks Rickman. I thought so.
The red engine on the floor will be the one to go in.
I have a OG code 400 turbo to go behind it from a 70 442.
With a little massaging on the body, and some black interior
that I found from a 72, I think I can have a driver before too
long I hope. Now if I can talk him out of his ram air hood....

Wow! did I screw up...
Defiant 1... A 1970...like mine...X200!
No side trim, with a white top and Cragers...Schweetttt, I likee. Lotz.
Opps and Damn. at me!
Pulled the buckets and rear seat out today along with what was left
of the carpet and vaccumed. Found scaley rust at the driver floor area,
not bad, no thru holes. Seat belts are filthy but nice and complete, whew.
If anyone wants these seat cores, they are complete and restorable. I have posted them on Austin TX Cl for any one looking. I won't ship, don't really have time for the pain. I hope everyone is having a great week. Any thoughts or comments are welcome. Ya'll take care, Adam.

Checked my 1st post... Wrong again, I ment 'turnpike cruiser'. With the 2 bbl. Duh.
SX's at least have a 4 bbl. Yes? Some days...No rear boxes or stabilizer either.
Seems my worst rust is in the lower rear package area and the same with the front
lower dash area. Pillar area seems fine. has any one ever tried to pull the shields, and fiberglass those areas?

Actually the SX could be ordered with a 2bbl carb. I had one. :-). Can't help you on the other questions though. Good luck!

Well I got the engine in and the OG hooked up.
Seems this little 455 may have had a cam in it.
I don't really know, It came from a wrecked 70 442,
along with the OG tranny. But man will it burn rubber!
Reminds me of the day with the 69 88. 1 thick line about
a block long, Love it! I finally got almost all the lights working
short of the pass. front blinker. It blinks in the dash and on the rear,
but doesn't seem to have power to that side to blink. I have all the
parking lights, that side included with side markers all the way around as well.
Any thoughts or suggestions is appricated.

For anyone who has had this problem, I
figured it out!
I seperated the fuse panel from the inside of the car
and cowl, blew out 40 yrs. of dust, I then took
my trusty wire brush, scrubbed both sides of
the terminals, blew it again, cleaned them with some
a little shot of brake parts cleaner, blew it again and
finished up with a shot of litheum grease, put it back
together and walla. Seems lights are a little brighter too.
If anyone tries this, make sure you pull off a battery cable.

Preferably the positive - you could cause a ground with yourself!

This is true!

Replaced a left front wheel cylinder yesterday in *98
heat, boy was that fun. Had an eiser time with the
line than the two bolts that hold it in!
If you order one for an Olds, expect a chev. A little grinding
on top to make it flat like an Olds. Worked like a charm.
Don't forget to toss the too long 8mm bleeder valve and use
the old 3/8, lol.
Two new glasspacks, ins and an inspection sticker....
Now if I can just get a title, I'll be set.
