Music for the Road
Been preparing my Monte Carlo for the Power Tour in a few weeks. One of the things I did was replace the redone original speakers with some precise reproductions of both size and impedance, which sound decent.
Old man and I are going for as long as he, I, and the car will take. I have a FM modulator and a phone with a headphone jack and many gigs worth of space to load up mp3s.
He's an older dude of 73, and, although we listened to moldy oldies driving around in the 80s when we were both much younger, both he and I appreciate classic rock. He doesn't appreciate my tastes in metal.
So, I need bands. I have, so far, the collected works of:
1. Creedence Clearwater Revival.
2. Pink Floyd.
3. ZZ Top.
4. Dire Straights.
Will probably get the Stones, the Eagles, some Roy Orbison, maybe some Tom Petty, perhaps the Hollies. Animals, Bobby Fuller Four, Led Zeppelin.
He does own a Flying Burrito Brothers LP, even though I have never listened to a song of theirs.
What do you all recommend?

There's a British band of fellas they call themselves the Beatles, they do have a couple catchy ditties...

Depending on the radio in your car you might be able to connect you iPhone via cable or Bluetooth. Download Pandora and you can get most any venue you like. For five bucks a month you can get it commercial free.

I am rocking the vintage 72 3 speaker mono AM/FM. I have little transmitter and a cord to my phone. We are going to be in the sticks of the south, so I want the music onboard my phone.

do you have pink floyd "animals"this is a great road album.most people have never heard of it,but one of their greatest works.i personally like frank zappa's "apostrophe/overnight sensation"and "one size fits all".throw in some johnny winter and some stevie ray vaughn,kinks,cars,ac/dc.

I like Bon Jovi but it's a little too new for him, and ACDC he doesn't particularly care for. Rush is about the only band I don't like (the guitar is awesome, but Geddy Lee's voice grates on me.)
I may rip and upload my best of Jethro Tull cd, that's a good idea. Stevie Ray Vaughn might work.

Bob Seger is a must-have in the list. If you don't already have his greatest hits cd, his material is now available for downloading. He *finally* relented and agreed to have most of his works available on iTunes and other streaming services last year, being one of the last major holdouts in the music industry. Just don't ignore your speedo when listening to Hollywood Nights... something about that duel drum track that makes people go too fast!

Hot Rod Power Tour is a blast. I've been on several. But I won't even leave my neighborhood without some Springsteen. The Rising CD and earlier being my preference.

The Doors are a good idea. I am not an Allman Brothers fan. We had a "singing challenge" in high school and 50% of the people picked Ramblin Man to sing because it fit their latter day hippie dream, although I'm the only one of the class that has actually been on US 41.
