Moving the cross member back

I got my 65 up to start on the rear end bushings and noticed that my shiny new dual exhaust system is built awful close to the cross member. I'm putting in a 200R4 in the near future and I'm curious if anyone can tell me just how far back the cross member has to move to hit the 200r4 transmount also I'm curious as to what people are doing about the Ebrake cable? Is there some good way to shorten it?

The easiest way to determine where the crossmember goes is to do it during the installation - drill accordingly.
The front e-brake cable has quite a range of adjustment to the u-bracket - should be enough.

Is your 1965 a convertible or a HD frame car? If so, the tabs for the crossmember are not long enough to move it backwards. You need to weld on extensions to the tabs. On standard C-section frames this is not a problem since the crossmember simply sits on top of the lower flange of the frame rail.

You need to use the front and intermediate e-brake cables for a 1967 Cutlass with TH400. NAPA still lists these parts. Here's more info with part numbers:

My car is a std coupe so I can move the member back easily. Thanks for the tip on the 400 cable, I thought of that but couldn't find one. The real question is how much longer is the mounting point, I have to have the exhaust redone to clear the crossmember before I can do anything else.

I found out it's about 6" at least compared to a Power Glide, no one lists the lowly old 300ST.

Fortunately, one thing the ST300 DOES have in common with the PG is crossmember location. Also overall length.

As you've found, the TH400/200-4R crossmember location is about 5.75" back from the location for the PG/ST300. In any case, just bolt it to the trans and drill the holes where it falls on the frame rail. Exact location is not that critical, but be sure it is square to the side rails.
