Motor oil question
Getting ready to change the oil on my 64 F-85. It has the stock 330 engine. What's the best oil to use in this engine? Have had people tell me to use zinc additive others say not. Not sure what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm just waiting for Joe to chime in on this as it's another topic that gets reviewed to death on this site. Curious to see how many links he puts on this one.

Don't use a zinc additive, use an oil that has the needed zinc added during it's formulation.
I use Valvoline vr1,it has the needed zinc and I can get it local at NAPA without having to mail order it.
While your there pick up a NAPA gold oil filter, they are made by Wix,some of the best filters on the market.

if The cam and lifters are original high mileage parts, or the engine has a ton of miles on it, zinc content probably isn’t that big a deal anymore. I say this because the valve springs are probably pretty tired. I would think a lot of people would turn up their nose at the idea of spending extra money on flat-tappet engine to keep their beaters going, and you just don’t hear as many horror. Story’s of cams going bad as in past
I would suggest if your the least bit concerned about the engine, spent the extra few bucks on the proper oil. The proper oil is many times cheaper than repairing damage from a flat cam.
