Molding removal

I have a 65 Cutlass and want to replace the Passenger side front fender molding. This is the molding that is behind the front wheel. What is the best way to gain access to the attaching nuts on the inside of the fender? I am thinking to un fasten the wheel well from the fender to gain access to the fasteners. Or is it necessary to gain access from unbolting the lower fender?

Good question, you might be able to unbolt the inner fender but since I was removing the front sheet metal anyhow
i just took the outer fender off and left the inner fenders on. With the fenders off you will have access to the moulding fasteners . This also will give you complete access to the firewall at which time I would look at the heater core and the blower motor.

Unfortunately you almost certainly need to pull the fender out from the cowl. There is precious little space between the lower cowl and the bottom of the fender - even if you get the inner fender out, you may not be able to access the fasteners. Open the door and look into that area to get an idea of the space.

The fenders were just installed after a complete removal of the front clip. I just happened to come across a better molding than what was on the fender. I guess I’ll take a look at the clearance between the door and play it by ear. Thanks for your advice!
