Medford Cruise
Here's where I'm heading this morning. In the past few years there's been about 500 cars in the park, only 5-10 are Oldsmobiles. But this is the big event for Southern Oregon and Northern California so I'll just have to enjoy what's there

That's a great event they have each year. My brother used to go to it with his '68 4-4-2 when he lived near Crescent City CA and he said it was one of the best (he also greatly enjoyed "Graffitti Days" in Roseburg).
Here in Washington State, the VCCA-Mt. Rainier Region has their big annual car show tomorrow and the Lewis County Fairgrounds in Graham, WA and our South Sound 4-4-2 Club always makes a big showing there. Unfortunately, I've only been there once. It's still raining up here and the forecast is for showers tomorrow so I won't be going, yet again. Oh, to be just a bit further south where the cold fronts don't reach this time of year...!

Yes Randy, it's a fun event. I only counted four Oldsmobiles but after I left a buddy called to say a fifth showed up. There were many very nice Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs and 55-57 Chevys, but after seeing several of each I began being drawn to the more unusual cars. Attached are some of what I considered the highlights.
The first car that caught my eye has a really WILD paint job

A buddy of mine purchased this 1964 GTO convertible new here in Medford. He spotted it in the local showroom and fell for it. He told the salesman if his wife liked it, he'd buy it. So they drove it 26 miles to the next town where she was working, she liked it so he said he'd buy it. When they got back to the car lot the sales manager didn't want to sell it yet as it was the first one they'd got in! But my friend prevailed and has enjoyed it for years.

Sadly, this is a sign of the times and there were several cars for sale. The asking price on this one was $10,000 so someone will get a real bargain!
P6160006.jpg
There was a strong showing of Mopars and I talked with the husband of the lady who owns this Superbird. She purchased it new and used it as a daily driver the first 15 or so years. She has another car with a 426 hemi, I think a Coronet (sp?), and he said there were no badges on it... so it was a real sleeper! P6160043.jpg

For the other GM crowd, this was attached to a 4 speed Grand Prix
P6160023.jpg
And a supercharged Avanti

I remember drooling over an AMX when I was in high school and this was a nice example

Can you name the car this console came in??? Answer below!
P6160029.jpg
This was handmade, and one very strange motorhome! You could drive it from the cab, or switch that off and drive it from up on the roof

P6160128.jpg
P6160130.jpg
OK... here's a hint on the 4 speed console car previously mentioned. It's an AMC product.P6160031.jpg
Oops! I've used up my limit of pictures so I'll have to continue in another post!

More pictures!
Here's a restored Bently that won the LeMans race in both 1929 and 1930. The owner said they ran 24 hours and averaged 84 mph... that included breaks! He's had it up to 100 mph since restoring it
Check out the fan belt!

Have you guessed what the 4 speed car is yet? There's a fish on the emblem!
P6160034.jpg
Then the best for last.... a 1949, 1956 convertible, 1970 SX and a 1972 Convertible. My camera batteries ran down before I got to the 1968 F85 post car, straight 6 and 3 on the tree.

Well, I wasn't right with my guess on the console! Looked like a fantastic show - wish I could have enjoyed some of that 91 degree weather. The Graffitti Days show in Roseburg next month will be a good one, too - always a great turnout and always a lot to do over the 3-4 day period.
My favorite shot was the 8-lug Pontiac wheel!

And a couple more of the Rambler Marlin. Allan, I'm not sure which came first, the Marlin or the Charger but agree the basic shape is similar.

It's sad to see so few Oldsmobiles, but at the same time that's one of the draws for me. To have something different, rather than a whole row full of the same car, just different paint/interior.

I really do like my Oldsmobiles but I do have a certain weakness for the 62-65 Pontiac Grand Prix and the 65 Pontiac 2+2. I even have a '70 GTO but don't tell anyone here at this site! Thanks for the picture of the Grand Prix, John - I appreciate it very much!

I've been living and breathing Oldsmobiles for many years now. But with so many new cars being cookie cutter/wind tunnel shapes I really enjoy seeing the old iron. I don't think I caught it in my photos but that Grand Prix paint job was a mirror! Looking down the side of the car showed no wrinkles or waves of any kind in the body. And did I mention it was a 4 speed car? I can appreciate the effort put into making that car so nice I admire it no matter what the brand
Then when it comes to the more unusual cars. If that Rambler Marlin wasn't pretty much a survivor before the owner got it he must have had to look under every rock in the state to find parts for it! I love the Oldsmobiles but still had fun admiring the other cars that were restored so well. John
