Mecum 1975 H/O W-30

I didn't want to sidetrack the thread new member with a 1975 H/O, but I noticed in the link that was posted for a Mecum car that sold recently there was an oddity.

" this pristine 1975 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds shows just 37,205 miles on the odometer. "

Yet in the interior pictures, the steering wheel doesn't look to have any of the grain left on it. That thing looks as smooth as a baby's bottom.

What say ye all?

I never followed the grain pattern much on the wheels, but my 71 wheel is smooth. I know some of them had a pattern, but I don't know if 75 had that. I thought they did that with the non-A-body steering wheels? It appears they may have tried to slather it in some sort of protectant because it appears oily in spots. I dunno. Overall, it looks fairly nice. I've seen a lot of 73-75 interiors crust up and fade away. Especially the side panels in the door and quarters. This one appears well taken care of. Not sure if they replaced the seat material or not, they seem unusually white.

Notice the heater hose return to radiator- that thing got discussed some time ago. It might be original - part of the HD cooling package per assembly manual.

It definetly looks unrestored.

re: the wheel grain. We dont know how long it takes to wear the grain off and in what conditions? Is 37k enough to wear itsmooth?

additionally that car appears to have every option clock, digital tach, alarm, dual gate, cruise etc. i think its possible the sport wheel may have been added

i think this car looks like a nice complete car in good condition with many options. Compare this car with that 70? Convertible posted a few weeks ago that had 70-72 parts force fitted on everyend of the car and was called a stunning restoration ( lol)

anytime i see any old car for sale especially at auction or a car dealer, i assume any ad copy is false until proven true.

The wheel wear most likely was from someone trying to get the stickiness gone and using cleaners that they should not have.

And here is a good example of that:
  • One of 2,535 produced in 1975
  • Final year for the Oldsmobile 455 CI engine
I guess they forgot about the 1976 model year?

I realize there aren’t too many pics of the interior, but shouldn’t we still be able to see shoulder belts for the front seats or at least the plastic guides to hold them to the seat backs?

I have a sport steering wheel from a '74 H/O and it's smooth...no trace of any texture anywhere. It looks like the swivel buckets have the reversible cushions. They appear to have been recovered as I don't recall ever seeing color-coordinated pinstriping along the seams.
