Maybe I'm missing something?

Hey all, I posted this earlier...
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ck-yet-149150/

All the after market clocks I see are the same, so am I missing something as far as installation? I was under the assumption that the repops were plug and play...is that not the case?

Thanks,
Dave

I believe there are two vendors for the original clocks and the kit only works for the Borg ones. Can you post pictures of what you have and what you ordered? I’m not sure on how to ID the original one but I’m sure with pictures someone else here can.

I am not sure what you mean by three bolts? Do you mean the three screws that hold it in the frame and those do not line up ?

Yup..when I put the repop into the dash, the holes on the tabs won't line up with the holes in the dash.

Can you swap the new guts into the old housing?

I'd try that if I could get the old one apart, but when I turn the nuts on the back, the shaft that they are threaded onto just spin...

Grind them off. You have replacement parts.

I read it wrong. I see now that you bought a complete clock. I have Parts Place reproduction tic tok tach and it has the flat spot on the bottom. Maybe the clock they sell has the flat spot?

I completely understand that; I feel the same way about a lot of original parts. But what will you do with the original that doesn't work and you can't take apart to repair? As it is now, it's garage art.

Send it back then send the original to Redline gauge and clock repair. They did me right and reasonable.
I purchase a aftermarket Tack upon arrival the clock hand was laying at the bottom. I contact the same vendor, customer service suggested remove the plastic lens and reattach. Wrong answer so I returned for full refund.

I know that I'm coming into this late, but what is wrong with the original clock...other than it's not working? The only reason that I'm asking is because like almost everyone, my clock didn't work in my '71 when I bought it. A few years ago I took the clock over to a local watch/jewelry repair guy in my area. He fixed the clock and only charged me $40. Have you checked with any watch repair guys where you are?

One of the gears popped and is dangling on the spring.

Oh well. It was just an idea. I'd give you the number to the guy I used, but he retired 2 years ago. I guess repairing is a dying art. Everything is just toss it out and buy new.
