Matador Red 70 Cutlass Cruiser barn find

I ended up getting this pretty cheap over the weekend. Easily got it started after a fresh battery and some gas down its neck but it has a bearing knock if if you rev up past idle needs to come out, No smoke , blow by or drips. Hold pressure in coolant, AC turns on still, inside very good shape. Outside few dents. I like it. It was in a barn the last 12-15 years in a dusty Olds collection.

Thought I would share some pics from yesterday. I had rubbed off some oxidation and plus it rained so it was time for digital imagery magic. About to pull drive train to be rebuilt next year. Might pull it today.

On that knock, they're hard to really hear over YouTube, but don't discount the possibility of a loose or broken flexplate.

Nice car.

True MDchanic but it is coming out anyway to check her out and fix nice. Hoping for a crank redo and standard re ring maybe better cam and freshen heads or if it is not sludgy at all by chance maybe just flip it over and crank work only but I doubt it.

70-442-W30 yeah I added the SSIII wheels and slicks lol, the Reese hitch is staying even on the drag strip next month with the alternate power plant it is getting... lets just say 11:1 462 ci .550" solid roller, 270/200 cfm heads and modified intake with headers and a 3500 converter

Looks like a good foundation for a really nice flattop and in a very desirable color combination. Based on the photos, I would have guessed rallye red for the color. Matador red is usually a richer tone where the rallye is flashier/orange-y. Congratulations, and welcome to the hunt for serviceable wagon parts! Your engine issues are the easy part

Yeah it's just faded bad, it's real Matador Red and codes such in the places that didn't get the sun. Thanks for the support. Pretty excited about it and wife likes it so that's a plus!

Good job, but I can never understand why some of you guys don't
pull the hoods off. That is the 1st thing I do, so much easier to get
to under hood components. Good luck with the build, subscribed.

Looks like the alternative power plant is Pontiac, right? Gotta watch those 455 Pony blocks, they will crack in the upper main webs.

No , LOL. Just replacing head gaskets on 455 Pontiac at moment. Original 350 is in garage safe waiting to be gone thru. It was running good but just had a rattle when I pulled it last year. (rod bearing)

End of the Pontiac power back to SB Olds

Well after having my fun with the 455 ending last year with a 12.5 @106 pass, it needed to come out for freeze plugs and will be going into a Pontiac body this year to race. I pulled it out yesterday since we had nice weather. Should have Olds in and fired up before months end and street driving begins with mufflers this time. Plan on some cross country driving this Summer with A/C blowing as well.

On the road again with Olds power

Got it going in the last few weeks and also mufflers finally. Added to Hagarty policy today and maybe next weekend charge A/C. The low compression stock 350 runs pretty good (70 030 short-block with crap pistons and #4 330 heads)

Boy do I need a #671 differential and get that mini spool out.

Thanks man but I got two 70 open setups 3.08 and a 3.23 just keeping an eye out for any super duper deals locally on a 671 unit or I will end up getting a new modified unit from JD later
