Made the cover of MuscleCar Review

I havent found it for myself yet but I made the cover of Decembers MCR. I got a call last week with the news and I couldnt believe it. They must not want to sell many copies This is only the second time a 65 has made a cover of a magazine, other time was back in 1986. I still cant believe it!!

People are saying this issue has the most Olds coverage in a looong time. Cant wait to buy my 25 copies.

Thanks guys.

Its weird to see a everyday muscle car on the cover. Its not a Hemi this or Boss that. Seems like all we get to read about are the rare, one of 5 cars. Thats why I was floored to see a plain ole 442 on the cover.

I think they had a big 'ol spread some time back with a '66 on the cover as well. It's very cool to see an Olds on the front, more so that it's not a '70 W-30, nothing against them but it seems that's all you see in print. I personally like the 64-67 style better. 2nd fav is a '67 GTO, mostly due to it was our family car for alot of years.

This December Issue of Muscle Car Review has Over 20 Pages of Olds Coverage!

Aside from the fact that Jasen Ramsey's 65 442 is on the cover as well as a feature article too (great Jasen - your car deserves it). Joe Donnelly's Run to Rund Car is covered in great detail as well as the OCA's National meet and the Dick Miller meet (4 pages each)!

And Rick Duden's 1970 W-25 car is also covered in the Your Turn page (way to go Rick - good story)! There is a great nostalic picture of the 1970 Pace Car and the 1910 Limited for a 1970 PR event.

And also covered is Joe Fotschky's '69 Hurst; Mike Jones & Eric Smith's 1967 W-30; and Earl Simpson's 65 and 68 442s - they all get feature coverage.

I want to encourage all of you to go out to the newsstand and buy a copy. Newsstand sales of a particular issue tell the editor and the publisher that a particular car is exciting to the magazine buyer - and ensures that we will get MORE OLDS COVERAGE in the future. (Dew Hardin, the Editor, is a great Olds fan and he wants to convince the publisher to let him do more Olds articles, but we need to show that we are engaged).

So don't whimp out - get a copy if you are not a subscriber - and once you do, I'll bet you will subscribe! MCR is a great magazine that supports our hobby - help them do well!

PS, subscribers should buy a copy too - because from you subscription they don't know you are an Olds nut - only newsstand copies can tell them that.

On the Cover of the Musclecar Review...On the Cover of the Musclecar Review

Too cool, congratulations!
Does the car change on the cover like it does in your sig pic?

Please remember us "little people" in the future sir.
Will framed copies with your genuine certified autograph on the cover be available for purchase?

It is worth your wait, TK. You got 6 pages and the cover, huge coverage for any car, and especially for an Olds!

I just picked up my copy, and enjoyed especially the stories on Jasen's and Joe. D's cars. Such recognition must be satisfying...HMM took lots of pics and asked me lots of questions about my '65 J1 at Musclepalooza in E-town a couple months back, but alas, when the latest issue with the "event story" came out, there was nary a mention of my car (sniff, sniff). Haw, haw, I wasn't too broken up about it, but still, I bet it must feel nice to be "famous"!

I did have a question about the "Run to Rund," car though: on one engine shot, I noted an odd fitting on the center carb, looks like the fuel line going into the center carb has a "T" on it, allowing the line to extend a few inches beyond the inlet, over to the passenger side, with a 90 degree turn/fitting into some kind of "barrel". What in the world is that?!

electric fuel pressure sender. Keep looking, there is more stuff!
Origiinally, mechanical gauges were used, and two gauges have the retro chrome bezels. The other two deliberately have later bezels to mimic changing to electric gauges in later years when NHRA no longer allowed fluids into the passenger compartment. The theme of the car is continued racing, not a snapshot of one day back in 1966. So, I try to strongly emphasize 1966 but give some attention to later safety requirements, etc. The wheel colors, by the way, match what was on the car in the Cars color centerfold (Feb. 67); Vance color coded the wheels so it was easy to get the tires he wanted on the car, and verify it. He used different size tires for different tracks.

Since you are detail oriented, I might mention that "editorial exuberance" resulted in saying most factory 66 W30s had radios, when some did but I don't believe most factory cars came with factory radios. Also, 5/8" wheel studs became 5-on-8. I know of factory cars with dog dish hubcaps, P01 covers, P05 SS wheels, but I don't know of any with wire wheel covers. We don't know of any factory cars with the F35 frame but that doesn't mean none had it.

Unfortunately, mention of John Molnar's involvement in the re-creation was not included in the final text.

I must admit, I did not think anything about the gauges, but I noticed the lack of waterpump bypass (presumably goes along with heater delete), dual master cylinder, ignition, wrapped steering wheel, among other things added/changed under the hood for performance, and/or safety. Thanks for the explanation re: that fuel pressure sender.

It does have a bypass, but to the 11 o'clock port on the water pump per std. on Tri Carbs. I made up a water neck with copper tubing and the cast iron neck so the hose would be short and straight=less likely to blow, similar to what Olds did around 1971. My engine runs cooler with the bypass.
