If you paid by credit card, you may have recourse there.

I did not send them back. After the restocking fee they were going to charge plus shipping I just took my losses.
Sounds like he has a good scam going on. Customer orders item X and he sends them part Z. Part Z is always more expensive and the customer is not contacted for approval of the charge on the more expensive part and they are not aware of it until part is received. Then when you try to return it you are charged a restocking fee. He wins either way.
I would do some homework before I contacted them. He has been doing this for a while so he knows HIS best optionsI. If you paid with a credit card call them and see what they say. Maybe contact BBB???
Good luck to you

Don W

As always, buyer beware regardless of the label.

Back in a better day, a big man would come bust a kneecap and he'd learn.

Lynn made a similar mistake with me, but sent different springs to correct. Don't assume the worst. You may catch him on a good day.

I've seen worry defined as using your creative powers to bring about an outcome you don't want.

Hope it goes well for you.

How about early 400 crankshafts only sold @ this Paso Robles based company?

If you are looking for a crank, please don't spam the forum by posting essentially the same question in every section. I've moved one of your other posts to it's own Parts Wanted thread.

Just and update.... I sent the parts back and got All of my money back! Funny thing is on the invoice it says, I can no longer buy items from company.... Like I really want to get over charged again and be given the wrong parts and not to mention cheaply made parts.

Congratulations

Seems the only way to be treated like a customer by Lynn is to at the same time be banned from buying there. Win win!!

I talked to Mary Mondello (Joe's wife) a few years ago about the business and Lynn. She is well aware of his reputation and she owns 51% of the business and Lynn owns 49%. She apparently doesn't have the means to buy him out or an interest to do so. And she does not have any relationship with Bernard as far as I know.

Well now! I guess I'll have to refrain from recommending Mondello in Paso Robles.. The engine I got from them was back in 2014, I dealt mostly with a young man there, that appeared to be running things, I did talk to Lynn a couple times. Maybe I was lucky.
I talked to Lynn in October when I bought my 53 Super 88, as a resource for a possible rebuild of the 303 if needed.
I can truthfully say that my experiences with engine re-builders has never been good, I have only had one good experience, that being on a 48 Ford 59AB engine that I had rebuilt that came apart in 11,K miles. The second rebuild of the engine was in 1961, and has not given me any trouble since. The only thing that was right in the engine were the parts I bought and took into the shop.
I always buy factory rebuilds, new crate engines or late model engines from wrecked vehicles. Wm

How many engines are you buying? Try changing the oil; they last longer.

Paso Robles should still be avoided. Bernard Mondello Racing Enterprises in Corona is the only Mondello to deal with https://bernardmondelloracing.com/

Some people get all of their exercise bye jumping to conclusions..
I currently have four project vehicles in my Hobby Shop, which have required engine work, or are going to. I can not recall the last engine failure I have had with a daily driver, except for the engine in my '36 Ford in 1961, which I mentioned earlier. I am a firm believer in preventive maintenance.
Thank you for the tip on Bernard Mondello. Wm.

This is like Deja vu, all over again. First I can't believe Lynn is so unknowledgeable about Oldsmobile engines. It's not "Rocket Science." There are books by knowledgeable Oldsmobile Guru's, and yes Lynn sells Joe Mondello's book. It's almost like these engines were built by Morons. He's not the only one selling badly machined Oldsmobile engines. Jmo.

Did Bernard Mondello work at Mondello when his dad owned it?

was he the head machinist back then?

I think Lynn is knowledgeable, I think he is just more knowledgeable about screwing people.
