losing fuel pressure

I just put a 455 in my 71 cutlass. It had a 350. The 455 has 10.4/1 comp
with big valve c heads , a torker intake and a holley 770 . I used a couple of things off the old engine. the fuel pump was one of them. it starts and runs ok in the shop. when you take it on the road and start to accel the fuel pressure drops off to nothing. the fuel pump is stock and has 6 psi.
and 30 gph. is this enough?

Not to be a wise guy, but I guess not.

If it runs well in spite of the pressure dropping, I wouldn't worry about it, but if the low pressure seems to be leading to a power dropoff, then you need more fuel.

My dad had a 71' 98, and both the carb fuel filter and tank filter sock plugged up, when the car was nearly new. 71' was the 1st year for engine compression drop, to accomodate low octane, no lead fuel. Seems, many gas stations, didn't do a very good job of the tank change over, and had lot's of crap in them. Your car may be a holdover of that.
